I was watching a video about sludge washes with pastel dust, water, and dish washing liquid. Spread it on there, wipe it off a half hour later.
Pencils are a bit more in my artistic comfort zone though and will have to look into that. And graphite for exhaust stains as well, I’ll check that out too!

The sludge washes are what Flory’s wash is. You just buy it pre made.

Cheers, Carlos on that pre-made wash! And thank you, and Kari, and Mr. Graflex for the advice. I’m taking some time this evening to drink a beer, listen to music, and look-over the instructions for where all the decals go, mapping out how to divide them all up and get them on there this week.

Re: Eduard BF109 E-4

Ended up with the morning off due to a power transformer exploding and knocking-out the electricity to my house. So I opened the blinds, and worked on the decals.
Not gonna lie, some of the tiny ones didn’t make it. Had a few casualties. And some of the kill marks on the port side of the tail didn’t make it either. The damned decal had folded over and I hadn’t noticed. I tried to take it off and reapply after I’d noticed it, but it didn’t go very well. So Franz Von Werra is missing a few kills for now. Gonna try to very carefully draw them on there with a sharp black Prismacolor pencil.
Whatever the case, I’m pleased with the results so far. And I’m looking forward to start weathering now that I’ve had some time to think about it and all the advice to ponder.

Sorry to hear Kenny about the power transformer!
Well done decaling!
May I ask, are you using some decal setting solutions, if not, that could have at least in theory helped avoiding the small accident..

Re: Eduard BF109 E-4
Long story short- after painting, apply a clear gloss coat. After that has dried, apply your decals with the setting solution, following the directions on the bottle. If the surface is very irregular- compound curves, corrugated, etc. apply a dose of solvent solution following the directions and allow to dry. This step can be visually distressing, the decals will shrivel and appear to self destruct-REMAIN CALM AND DO NOT TOUCH OR OTHERWISE ATTEMPT TO ADJUST THEM- this is normal. Go back and deal with any possible bubbles or silvering as needed. Apply your weathering, then final topcoat.
