Great work with the masks, Kent! They look much better than decals, IMO. Thank you for your encouragement regarding NM finishes. I tend to be a little sloppy when it comes to the fine sanding my glue joints and those NMF jobs require better work from me to pull it off. Definitely want to give it a try in the future... maybe a Revell 1/32 P-51D in my modeling future. I've already picked up a set of the Barracuda P-51D cockpit stencils and placards.

Masking and touch ups of the US insignia. I had also sustained some minor paint damage near the tail from a careless flick of a solvent laden paint brush. These were touched up with relevant AKI metallics:

















The spinner was masked as the lower section will be black which I will do when I touch up the black markings later. This includes the port fuselage lightning bolt which I wiped over with what I thought was a clean cotton bud had a trace of cleaner:





Prop boss drilled out using the nifty doodad that Eduard give you to ensure the correct angle for the prop blades, which have been painted white in preparation for yellow tips:

Looks great. Last pic before the cool Eduard jig shot has me slightly wondering if there is a pressure sensitive/ glue? shine on the upper quadrant of the roundel or if it is a trick of light, or if I need to hit the hay soon (it's been a long night). Definitely seeing your work and this level of documentation continues to be a major source of inspiration and initiative to me. I see where masking is a bit of a wonder, but masking may also have a thin (perhaps literally) margin for error. I was actually going to start by tracing, cutting masks of parallel lines to experiment with the idea of multiple taping and passes of paint. I did this on a classic Enterprise build but it was simpler and I remember not enjoying the back and forth process of eliminating overspray.

Have you had any issues like that?

Well caught mate,
It is in fact a little white overspray where I got a bit cavalier with the airbrush. Masking will always be one of those things that exasperate. I see others mask the bare minimum and not stray whereas I seem to mask entire builds and there will always be that one tiny spot that is overlooked. I suppose my only advice is be pedantic in your masking and check twice before spraying!
