All looks great so far! A pilot friend of mine got to climb into the office of a 109 and said that it's as small and cramped as the kit version appears in reality. Shame to cover all the work but it is what it is.... Look forward to more

I’ll need to do some filling on the leading edge for both wings. I was expecting that. After installing the wheel well parts they no longer fit flush. So the bulk of the work I did this morning before signing on to work was very-carefully sanding down those pieces, test fitting the wings halves, and sanding and test fitting some more. Once I got it to where it was a good fit, I test fitted again a few more times just to be sure, and glued them up, and fastened them with Tamiya tape. That will be easy to fill and sand, so no problem.

Typical Profipack. The whole assembly just snapped right into place without any fuss at all.

I am deliberately procrastinating on installing the small PE parts which attach to the breather and the fuselage. They come in two pieces. They’re a pain in th ass to attach. I tried it earlier. I’m going to leave those for tomorrow or the next day and noodle it in the meantime.

This will be it for today. My babies turn 1 today and I can’t wait to celebrate with them and Mrs. Kenny X when they come back from daycare later on this afternoon/evening.

The 109 looks really good and I'm looking forward to seeing the desert scheme, which has always been a favorite of mine. I know the feeling of spending lots of work painting and detailing interior parts and then covering it up with construction. But... your model exists not only in its physical form but here on these pages. Anyone looking at your model online will have access to the photos of your interior work. So in that way, I don't consider it wasted work. It's there and it has been documented and people will continue to view your beautiful work on the interior. That's how I look at it anyway.

Oh you’re absolutely right, John. And I agree.

And to add to that- when I came back to modeling and built that first Emil, the job I did on the cockpit interior was absolutely terrible. And I said “You know, it doesn’t really matter. I’m a beginner, and it’s not like anybody’s going to see it anyway, all buttoned-up in there.”

But still bothered me.

And my wife totally understood. She said “Yeah, but you know what’s going on in there...” Yea. I sure do.

And it works both ways, for me. I know I did a good job on the inside. I have the pictures to prove it, and even though you’d have to peer through the open canopy with a magnifying glass and pen light, it doesn’t matter. I’m glad I put in all that extra time. Plus, just being able to sit down every night and paint on it and detail it a little bit was very relaxing and therapeutic. Really enjoyable.

So I am in complete agreement. None of that work is wasted at all.

Okay, a little bit more work before Mrs. Kenny X came home with the bébés.

I figured out an easy way to steady those PE breather mounts. I measured everything and cut out the thingunmabobber out of cardboard that you see there, which allows it to sit steady while the PVA glue dries. I had a real rough time getting it on there with tweezers before. This made it super easy.

Uh, question actually- is PVA glue okay for holding PE parts like these little ones on? I used it because I didn’t want to try getting it into place quickly while racing CA glue’s drying time...

Carlos, I definitely need reference photos and would appreciate it. I haven’t been able to find too many on my own.

These may not be 109s, but they do give a good idea of German Aircraft in Tunisia in early 1943, where they were taken. Look at the weathering (not the battle damage)

Let me tell you chief, when you really, really want to glue a tiny PE part to a piece of cardboard stood up next to your model airplane, this is totally the way to go! HAHAHAAA! Yes, I discovered that much to my chagrin this evening.

It’s okay. I cleaned up the part, and attempted it again. I affixed the oval shaped piece to the fuselage with CA first and there was enough tacky PVA glue in the slit to accept the part that connects it to the breather and hold it relatively securely while I dabbed a little CA on it. That worked well. I’ll do the top one tomorrow.

Thank you for your input as well. I’m experimenting with brushing on various pastel dusts on the landing gear now, trying to get that same orange/red coloration. This is all great stuff!
