Bruce!

My man! Thank you for that post! Those pictures will help me a lot!!

And I appreciated your reply. It helped cement the thoughts that I’ve been having in my mind with this. It was really nice to hear somebody I trust speak them. It’s like, you want to learn but you don’t want to duplicate somebody else’s style. You want to do something all your own and break new ground. And I love that. Learning new things is one thing. That’s okay. But biting somebody else’s style, no bueno.

I like Doogs. I like how he lays it all out there and makes what he’s learned available. And I respect you, and all the other modelers here who post build logs too. You and Kari and John and Carlos and the rest of the folks here, man, i’ve learned so much by looking at your logs and seeing how you do things. That takes courage to to post your work and your process.

But I’ll never duplicate what you do and call it my own. I’ll learn things that help, and do what I do. And I’ll NEVER be a negative presence in the modeling community, ever.

Man. I’ll never forget how Carlos and Kari welcomed me to this forum.

All you guys are great, and you do great work.

Kenny, with a family like that, you are a rich man. The hobby is just a pleasant pastime. As far as learning from others, try what you like, puck and choose what works for you, and perhaps modify some things you have seen into your own approaches. There is no one way only way to build. You have obviously been bitten by the 109 bug and it is quite enjoyable to see your enthusiasm in these builds. Moving from 1:48 to 1:32 can be fun due to the difference in scale. You can really go to town on detail. Enjoy!

I’m thankful for them every day, Carlos. Every day. The in-laws and godparents are coming over this afternoon for their official birthday party, and I’m excited about it. They both got a really good night’s sleep and woke up happy. Conditions are right for a really happy, fun day.

As for building, I’ve lately been coming around to the notion that dealing with the unique challenges every build presents is a lot of fun. Like those tiny PE parts I was dealing with at the tail-end of this week. It was fun to think about it and try to come up with solutions that would yield the results I was looking for. Of course, in the end I ended up winging it with CA, a hobby knife, and a cocktail umbrella but hey- it got the job done!

As to this kit here, from all the reviews I’ve read, positive and negative, the one takeaway message that I got was “test fit, Test Fit, and TEST FIT SOME MORE.” Which I pretty much do anyway. Have to. For me it’s because it doesn’t really matter how well-engineered a kit is, if there’s a bug or a booby trap inherent in it, I’ll find it accidentally LOL and the flip-side to that is, sometimes I can find ways to do it that work better for me- like with Eduard’s 1/48 109 E4 ProfiPack. Get the fuselage halves together and then pop the cockpit up through the bottom, and fixing the top halves of the wings to the bottom half before installation made it easier for me to get a solid wing root. Figured that out all by test fitting. I spend a lot of time rest fitting things different ways.

Packaged sprues. Everything looks lovely.

The clear parts are nice.

And here’s where we start!

So, this weekend’s work will be to prepare the Dragon IP’s for the Eduard PE IP’s.

If you like dry-brushing IP’s, you’re going to love this. The IP detail is crisp and absolutely lovely. It seems almost a shame tonsand it all off and apply PE parts, but I suck at dry-brushing IP’s.

“Death in June!” Glad the music is back! Reminds me how I ended up producing my buddy’s bluegrass EP and bonding over the movie “Leningrad Cowboys Go America” and Swedish metal. I missed the whole Tom Tiki Collins cocktail references in the second build thread, but I am happy you are here with Begonia.

I like some bluegrass music, myself. And Zydeco, as well. And I have been known to listen to Swedish and Norwegian Black Metal from time to time, though I don’t as much as I used to. It’s weird. Lately I’ve been listening to a lot of old Soul music. Sam & Dave, Aretha Franklin, stuff like that, on playlists cut with old school Ska artists like Toots And The Maytals, Desmond Dekker, and Judge Dread. My kids love it.

For model building though, I find stuff like TV On The Radio, Death In June, Depeche Mode, and the like help me relax and concentrate. Conversely, when I’m at the gym, it’s punk and Oi! all day.

LOL I guess you could say that I like to keep it varied. Almost “Schizophrenic”.
