Lookin good, bud. I agree with you regarding “slow n steady,” that is a good mantra to use when modeling. How are you prepping your plastic before you paint?

In terms of plastic preparation, I don’t do anything special at all. When the painting stage comes along I just go ahead and prime, then paint. And I’ve been priming with Mr. Surfacer 1500.

I had a few things I’d wished I’d done differently with my Von Werra Emil. One of them was prime and paint and assemble the fiddly bits and PE parts of the radiators and other sundry things first, before final assembly. So I opted to do those and the radiator flaps that way. Primed the PE parts for them, too and will be painting them today I suppose.

I don't have any pets or small children so I live dangerously and use my jig without seatbelts! The G-2 is looking sharp! Did you have to bend that PE panel on the lower fuselage to make it fit? I'm thinking about using it as a template to scribe the panel since the molding of that panel is so vague.

I don’t drink but when I do, I like a good Tom Collins. Some places make them bitter, others good.

I love a good Tom Collins! I make a decent one. I also make a Juan Collins, with Eapolón tequila instead of Hendricks gin.

Carlos, believe me, after what happened with my last Emil, this build has been keeping me up at night!

John, what I did was, I fixed it to the fuselage with CA glue, and gently bent it myself with my fingers while it was tacky, forming it in place. It ended up fitting very well that way. The brass seemed very malleable.

I’m going to tell you straight-up, the radiator flaps were an absolute bitch to get right. That isn’t necessarily an indictment against the kit, it’s probably just me, and it’s okay because I got them in how I wanted them. The radiator covers fit very well. And the same goes for the oil thingunmabobber.

Next comes filling those ugly wing seams, and a few areas in the cowling. I’ll do that tomorrow morning, and sand tomorrow evening. Then, on Sunday when me and Mrs. Kenny X get back from New Orleans, it’ll be time to start priming.

What comes to the radiator flaps... I just say one thing... Bondic !

When trying to glue, especially smaller pieces, I use Bondic as a "helping hand".
I put a tiny "blob" of Bondic on a spot on the piece, keep it still with a tweezer or fingers, light it up with a UV LED lamp (that is provided in a Bondic starter kit), just for 2-3 seconds. And then the piece is like "frozen" in place, and you can add glue or anything to make it stable. Bondic is not really good as a glue, that I have noticed, but to be a helping hand (and as glass on gauges in instrument panels) just excellent.

Here I put a small Bondic blob behind the pedal, some UV light on for a couple of seconds and the pedals were stable. Then some CA glue that I could really easily "target" exactly where I wanted, without shaking hands or other hassle when glueing small parts...




I have told it couple of times before on these SPAM pages, and I do it again... Invest those ~10 bucks in Bondic, it's definitely worth it!
