Airfix 1/32 Triumph Herald - Trying Something different

Thanks Gents! I'm still playing with colours at the moment but I think I've settled on this blue and brown leather seats. The underside is a mess, one of the things I've found that helps with brush painting Bruce is to avoid gloss or satin paints. I've got some matt black on order at present which will go over the base - All I've done so far is cover the plastic.

I've not tried those paints Bruce, although I suspect they are similar to the Hataka paints I use. This car however is real old Skool and is all enamel - and I'm really enjoying it - They are by far my favourite paints for brush painting. There's no real secret to doing large areas, just build it up with three or so thin coats.

I have a plan with this build. I think I might add a bit of rust and dirty it up a bit. I'd also like to add some odds and ends to the interior - Can you get a 1\32 35mm SLR and a tartan rug I wonder.

Got a bit more painting done on the engine as well tonight.

So a quick update on the car - I've made a bit of progress but not much as this has been my slow project. I don't want to rush it as I'm really enjoying it. Painting has been done with all sorts, applied with a hairy stick, and as I'm going for a less than showroom finish, I've used a lot of humbrol powders and acrylics on the undersides.

Your work looks absolutely fantastic, Stuart, so happy to see your post and great job all around with the look of the used automobile. The engine is really stunning. I know nothing about Humbrol or its powders! What are these and how are you using them (echoing Carlos)?

I have really been missing this build (and our mini-group car build).
Weathering powders really change the look of the subject. Instead of being a plastic thing, it becomes more the real thing!

The underside of the engine is very oily and dirty! Very very nice!
Seems the owner of the car has not really kept the engine compartment in good condition!

Happy to see this build moving on, time to continue with my MG !

I have to say I had been really enjoying the build and I need to get back to it. I'm not sure what made me start to weather it, but it was a lot of fun.

The powders I used were Iron Oxide, Sand, Black and White. I have a very small brush that I cut short to use for dry-brushing, and I applied it with that, and the occasional bit of water on top. I also dry-brushed (and splatted) some dark earth paint into the wheel arches. Taking a tip from Joe, I dry-brushed the black over everything including the engine to dirty it up a bit. I really liked the effect - I just felt the engine was too glossy for an old British engine.

I really need to finish off the interior, so that I can add the body and then finish the engine bay. I'd like to get this done as I've another two car kits in the stash now.
