1/48 Emil Do-Over

Post by KennyX »

I blame our pal John for this HAHAHAAA It seemed like he got that G6 rolling so fast, and it’s looking so awesome. I wondered “Could I do a nice looking build like that so quick?” And since my G2 is now out of major construction and onto the sanding and filling stage, and since my last two 1/48 Emil’s crashes and burned (almost literally), I decided to put that Eduard kit together again. A do-over. Only I’m doing Galland’ plane this time. I’ll re-do Von Werra’s another time.

Okay, so here’s today’s work—

Cockpit:

And major airframe construction:

Everything I wanted to do differently with my last Eduard Emil, I did so far. The top IP is mounted properly and the gun sight will fit under the windscreen, the cowlings for the guns and engine fit better (WAY BETTER), and I’m happier with the cockpit. So there we go!

Nothing like a little practice to help out... third time is a charm, right?

And for a little inspiration...

That’s right, Carlos! And here’s hoping. My last attempt to drill and pin the rear landing wheel on my Von Werra Emil was totoallu unsuccessful. Hopefully this one fares better. I do have the jig, after all.

And that clip is great! Thank you for sharing that! I’ve been reading about the Battle Of Britain. LOL I’m learning a whole lot in a hurry, you could say.

I have a few more Emil’s in my stash. Along with several decal sheets. One or two of which will likely give me some Galland’s Emil’s. One for Battle of France and one for Batlle of Britain. But when you mention Galland and Battle of Britain I always love that scene, reportedly what was said between him and Göring at some point.

I read about that. He butted heads with Göring quite a bit, especially near the end. He had a bad loss blamed on him.

I like reading about Galland. An RAF fighter ace he’d battled and he ended up becoming friends I read. Galland even made him the Godfather of his child.

Hey don't blame me pal! I only jumped in with the G-6 because YOU had rolled out that 1/32 109 and Kari jumped in with his own 109! Anywhoo... I think it's always good to follow your heart and if there is something tugging at you to re-do the Emil, let's do it! I love that BoB clip. One of my fave movies although I was always a little bugged by the look of the Hispano 109s.

That cockpit looks really really good!

Exactly which Eduard 109 E kit is it ? Just curious...

Kari,

Thank you sir!

It’s this kit here:

It’s my favorite kit to build.

You should build one! Emils and Gustavs, my man. They’re beautifl planes to build. And there’s so many variants.

And thank you for the kind words about my cockpit. That one was just me relaxing and painting. Not worrying about anything, not fretting over the possibility of screwing it up, just enjoying myself. I’m happy with how it came out. I’m starting to find a groove with all of this. I don’t worry about making mistakes and stuff so much anymore.
