Did you really just fabricate an instrument panel from a popsicle stick?

Nope. I used plastic cart. I made first one side fitting into fuselage half and transfered dimensions onto the stick as gauge for the other side.

Thank you for clearing that up! Also, I am curious about the lion illustration as well! What is that from/for? Thanks in advance!

My kids love animals. So they wanted me to draw a lion and a horse during vacation what avoids further progress of my F-4.

Nice work with your sketches, Marius. How old are they, if I may ask (and if you want to answer). No worries. I was looking at the Hasegawa kit you are building. Your work modifying the interior looks great, particularly the pilots. You mentioned these are from Airfix, I believe? What techniques are you using to paint the details?

Thanks Bruce. They are 10 and 6.
Yepp, the pilots are from Airfix's Hawk.
There are no special techniques to paint the details. I used photoshopped screenshots of Eduard PEs and printed them out. To show more structure I used dry-brushing and washing (water-paint). Chrome or silver details are done with a liquid chrome pen, small black details with Copic fine-liner. You know I was on vacation and so a bit limited with tools. For the pilots-suite I tried something new: I mixed an orange, washed with water color (black) and dry-brushed with white. Because the contrasts where to tuff in my opinion, I used the same orange as very thin glaze to make it more shiny and to weaken the contrast.

Cool. Thanks for the information, Marius. Your experiments with watercolor glazes remind me of my weathering idea to use watercolors as a weathering “set effects,” such as engine fluids. I know from working with an art conservator that we used watercolors as a stabilizing filler for surface repairs... I would imagine if a respectable effect was achieved, a UV matt clear coat could seal the effects.

So basically I was thinking:

1. Use chalk and powdered pigments for dry effects such as dust and dirt
2. Use watercolors and tempera acrylics for wet effects
3. Use graphite as well

Again all the above would have to be fixed, and the powdery media would need to be set before attempting to spray a fixative.

Any thoughts?

Bruce, I am unsure if I got it right. Maybe u can give more details?
Usually I don't like to use water colors for washings. In that case I didn't have my oil colors available.
Sometimes I also used coffee or tea to make oil stains
And such things

You understood. I don’t have any oils at present. I was going to experiment with fast drying oil color called “Griffin” by Winsor & Newton.
Basic palette:

1. Raw Umber #554
2. Cadmium Red Light #100
3. Light Red missing #
4. Burnt Sienna #74

What oil paints are you using?

Oils are terrific in washes etc!

Myself I have a very humble collection of 3 base oilcolors, but I love them!
