I think the seat you painted looks great and I, personally, would move on to the next thing. But everyone dances to a different beat and you should go where ever you think this build needs to be taken. This is just my take and I can be completely wrong but... I think it would be good for you to complete a project and use the lessons learned in the next build instead of trying to achieve perfection with one build. Sorry if I'm babbling or completely off-base here.

This aircraft is definitely going to look like you went back in time, zapped an active duty P51 with a shrink ray, and brought it back to the present with you.

It’ll be like when Dr. Strangelove came out, and Stanley Kubrick got in trouble with the Air Force over how accurately he and his crew built the cockpit and bomber’s office for that B52. They couldn’t figure out how he pulled it off so well because they didn’t publish hardly any details about that aircraft.

You are spot on, John. My goal with this project is completion by any means necessary (barring doing harm to anyone including myself). I do not think you have ever been off target in any comment. What you wrote is extremely helpful and I am very grateful.

Thanks so much. John raises a good point about completion. I was telling myself not to become distracted or disenchanted by process. I went from enjoying painting plastic to having mixed feelings, insecurities and potential hang-ups about colors which is weird for me especially because of work, and I often wonder if I treated a model like work if I would simply bang it through and not worry about accuracy... or I dunno what.

I remember a few Summers ago I went fishing all day one Saturday. Just me at Lake Martin, fishing.

I didn’t catch a god damn thing the entire time I was there. It was a total skunkfest.

After rehashing my day to my pal Rayzilla later that evening, he said something which will probably stick with me till I’m dead. He said: “Kenny X my man, a bad day fishing beats a good day at work any day.”

This understanding applies to all things.

Now, don’t get me wrong- I grok what you’re saying. You wouldn’t believe how much I’ll agonize and wring hands over modeling-related issues if I let myself. I actually dumped out three little cups full of paint because each time I’d mixed up my RLM02 I thought I’d gotten just a little too much Khaki in it. It’s my OCD invading my sacred modeling space. And I gotta deal with that shit. And it sucks sometimes. It takes something which should be relaxing and enjoyable and turns it into something stressful.

Here’s my take on it- don’t make it like work. Work at your own pace and keep it relaxing, and be willing to let a few chips here and there fall where they may from time to time. Do your best of course, but remember also to relax.
