Kommander Adolf Galland III./JG 26 Battle Of France

Post by KennyX »

We all know that at the moment, the Emil is my favorite aircraft to build. It has also become clear to me, during the course of my research, that I am very much fascinated by Adolf Galland and his Emil’s in-particular.

What’s more, I have a personal vendetta concerning this kit:

Tamiya 61050.

This was the first kit I built coming back to the hobby. And I botched that build in every conceivable way, along with not only dropping it myself and breaking it, but my seven year-old nephew dropped it as well.

I will be using these AM components inside the cockpit:

We all know that I prefer Eduard’s ProfiPack editions. Well, following the success of my latest do-over, I’m doing a Tamiya kit do-over, with Eduard PE parts. Kind of like a “Tamiya ProfiPack.”

Furthermore, I’ve been doing extensive reading over at the 109 Lair. I’ve collected some technical references for the 109E cockpit which I plan to use in further appointing the cockpit. Check these out (Photo credits to our pals at the 109 Lair):

I don’t know how yet to execute such scratch-built add-on’s. But that’s fine. I didn’t know how to paint mottled camo until I did it. Your guys builds, and in-particular Bruce’s methodology of looking into the cockpit of his Mustang in exacting detail, have inspired me to ratchet-up my game a few more notches.

So here we are. This will commence after everything arrives in the mail, or after I finish my current Emil. Whichever comes first.

Nosir, I do not. I don’t have time to waste. None of us do if you think about it (but don’t think about it too much because it’s terrifying -that’s half my problem).

It can be rough sometimes. I have intrusive thoughts which crop-up without warning every day, and tell me things like I could drop dead of an aneurysm, or a heart attack, or get scragged on my bicycle by a drunk driver on the way to the gym... and I have a whole bulwark of mental rituals which I engage in, which provide momentary relief and allow me to function like a “normal” person. The problem, though, and this is something that I’m learning in my Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, is that such rituals actually make my Moderate To Severe Anxiety *worse* (think of it like “food”, those rituals of mine are like food which feeds the OCD).

SO, nowadays I work on really feeling the anxiety, acknowledging it, and bringing myself into harmony with it.

While also recognizing that my Limbic System has been doing a great job of protecting me all these years, and some of its concerns are indeed valid. So in the interest of re-calibrating myself, I’m also validating that “Yessiree! I could indeed die today” and that said, god damn it if I want to do something amazing, I’m sure going to try my best to do it!

If I’m having an anxiety attack I’ll acknowledge it and feel it, and instead of trying to bail, I’ll deal with it and accept it head-on while playing with my kids, or doing laundry, or washing dishes, or working, or building a model.

Like Jocko Willink says: “Back off? NEGATIVE.”

A few images you might appreciate. Original blueprints... original Luftwaffe calendar (not sure if I have the correct aircraft, but... research):

You may wanna check out Heinz Ludmann’s Black 6 which was restored at Hendon. Where are the pictures? Well, thanks to whatever goes on at Tiny Pic, most of my photo uploads were disabled. I think they cleaned me out based on my choice of “Aviation history.” The few survivors may also be slated for removal. Bruce, 4/30/18
