Great work on the Corsair! If the engine's not glued into the cowling, I'd recommend wiring it since there is a good view into the engine.

Me too. I keep dancing around the idea based on what you wrote about getting too wrapped up in this... but I feel you could take a pin vise (you have one, I assume) and make a few holes (the visible five on each side of the silver "horseshoe" of the wiring harness. I hear Carlos approaching... hang on, let me look up this part—"automatic spark advance tubing" (fingers crossed). Put the holes in and add the salient features of a wiring harness that are visible yourself.

Yeah, I know I said I wasn’t ... but dammit it looks really good and a wiring harness would be a fantastic capper! And I’ve got time too! All the time in the world, baby. So, like my second cousin Chad X of Delta Sigma Chi always says: “Fuck yeah bro!”

It’s on. I have s tee tiny drill, and a kickass reference photo thanks to Bruce, and literally a metric ton of derelict coaxial cable which is chock-full of wires that should look relatively scale appropriate.

Already done, my man! Took yours and Carlos’ advice and covered it with a nice coat of Tamiya Clear. So we’re good there.

It shouldn't be too difficult since the molded wiring harness is quite thick and should be able to accommodate drilled holes. Lots of reference pics for the Pratt & Whitney R-2800 engine on the net...

I don’t have a drill bit for my little drill small enough.

I tried two different ways- gluing the wires to the ring, and gluing them to the back of it for a better hold. Neither worked well. Spent the weekend on it. Determined that for this scale, on an engine that I’ve already painted and clear coated, this is a huge pain in the ass and not worth the effort.

I’m going to take a break, give it a day to cool off, and decide to either go with my original plan and worry about doing it on my Hellcat while I build the engine, or try again on this model.

Without the drill bit size, though... it’s tough to support proceeding. I did think about this as a “Challenge Round” for you, so it is heartening to see you make the attempts. Sincerely. A major element of a good build log like yours is documenting all of the stops, starts, U-Turns and dead ends along the way. I find a lot of comfort in reading builds where a modeler lets it all hang out, and puts integrity out there.

Externally, we know Eduard has a PE harness. I would pull a photo of it and simplify the hell out of it—half a donut hidden behind the existing piece with the wires already attached would be my firing solution... I will sketch this after chow.
