Fantastic choices, John. Sincerely. Adding the edge tinting makes the gunsight feel operational. On your end your research as well as formulation of these techniques lends a great result and your assembly and painting are spot on! I am looking forward to your return to this project very much.

Great looking gun sight, and wise to use thicker plastic for the sight glass. Those usually pretty substantial items in real life. Heavy duty stuff.

I haven't been able to jump back into modeling full bore yet but spent enough time to finish up the Revi gunsight for the Dora. The gunsight is from the Aires resin set. Instead of the provided clear acetate, I used a little thicker clear plastic for the reflector glass pieces. The edges of the forward glass element was painted with clear green/blue. I sprayed the back element with Tamiya smoke to give it a tint just for kicks.

Wonderful piece of work !

I really love the blue/greenish tint in the reflector glass, looks really like real glass !

Just a curious question... Was the glass reflector in the real thing made of glass or plastics / acrylics (or any other transparent material) ?

Thanks guys! As for the real thing, I'm not sure what the reflectors were made of. I'm assuming glass but I don't know for certain.

You paint-up one hell of a gunsight my man. That’s lovely. Those things are almost an afterthought for me, regrettably.

Thanks guys! I'm in a modeling funk and I don't know how to get out of it. I've got two builds waiting and lack the desire to spend any significant time on the modeling bench. My oldest daughter, will be traveling to Central Asia for a month on a solitary mission trip and I've been trying to spend as much free time with her as I can. I think that is part of it. I've been thinking about my parents since returning from Hawaii. My mom is suffering from some memory loss issues and assisted living is being discussed as an eventual necessity.

I've discovered that it is difficult to immerse myself in a hobby if I am not at peace. I'm sure there are some people who can use their hobbies as a diversion to stress but I guess I'm not wired that way.

I was wondering about where you were, and felt your absence strongly and with great sympathy for I know so much has happened recently. You have taken a very important step here by writing about these changes. We relate to losing interest and gaining interest back as part of modeling itself.

I do want you to feel engaged and return to your projects but your family is most important to you, to us all. My best to you and should you ever wish to contact me, I am here!

In close, you are one of the best model builders I have ever seen, John. And you write and photograph with the care of someone who is personally mastering how he works through constant refinement of techniques. You sir are an artist.

There's nothing wrong with that John - it happens to us all once in a while and it doesn't take a lot to loose that drive. I've not been feeling all too healthy today, and instead of working on any builds (that are less than a foot away from me) I've been happily spending the last hour surfing through Flickr and enjoying the images.

At the end of the day it's a hobby, not a job. If there are things that are more important to you at present then enjoy those instead. I hope your daughter has a great trip!

John, no need to worry about this. Your family comes first so by all means, spend every possible minute with your daughter. I wish her well on her travels. As for the rest, I'll be praying for your mom as that is a tough thing to deal with.

Sometimes it is tough for me too to turn to the Hobby when I'm stressed. Just recently, dealing with my recent issues has made it difficult to work on anything in my Hobby Room as well. I'm heading out to Hobby Day today after my last treatment to try and rectify that; if not, I'll at least be surrounded by friends who help ease this burden.

Bottom line: don't worry about it. Spend as much time as you can with family and let the hobby mojo return when it does. We are here for you and will stay here with you though it all, just stop in whenever you need the boost of our support.
