I guess it really wouldn’t be a “Kenny X Build” if there wasn’t either a drop or a paint snafu or some other silly thing to recover quickly from!

With all that fantastic work up to this point, it would have been a crying shame to have sidelined this after the drop...

Mrs. Kenny X took me out for drinks afterward. Bruce pinged me while we were at the bar. I was able to see it in perspective. I pretty much just decided that I WILL finish this Corsair build, and it will be beautiful. After that it was really just a matter of a few small things:

1. Accept that setbacks happen

2. Devise primary, secondary, and tertiary options for repairs. Bruce and Kent helped me there.

And that was that, really. I need to clean up the paint along that join there, but I’m giving the old bird another day or two to rest, let all that stuff cure and set up and harden and all that, before I do.

I *may* get to the paint touch ups on there today while the kids nap, and I may not. I might just hang out and drink me a nice, ice-cold Michelada instead. I can always come back to the touch ups tomorrow. I’m figuring out how I want to do it. Here’s my options:

1. The lazy way: spray the colors on there as-is.

2. The not-so-lazy way: spray black down first on the affected panels, then spray the colors down in my standard ops marbling way.

I’m leaning toward #2, and for that, I need some time. And I’ll have way more time tomorrow because I’m off work for New Years and my dear ones will be at daycare. So probably better off waiting until tomorrow.

One thing I can definitely do today- get going on the wheels. In the reference photo, this aircraft appears to have mis-matched tires. Now, that could just be the light. I have considered that. BUT- this is an interesting, eclectic subject, it went to hell and back in real life, it’s been to hell and back a few times already on my workbench, so mismatched tires? Why not? I think I’ll get on that today.

Go for it! Mismatched tires can be the reality of war since they can get what they can to keep them flying - including tires.

Every single build contains at least one nasty surprise. No matter how good the modeler is or the kit he's building.

Absolutely do it! I'd go the quick route and mount one of the wheels on a drill or any other rotating tool and grind the pattern down with sand paper until it's nearly a slick. So you end up with a freshly replaced tire and a worn out one.

Ah... great save on the wing! I'm glad you didn't bin it and conducted the necessary repairs. I always look at these types of mishaps to add a layer of wear and tear on my builds. In other words, sometimes the repair work will create some opportunities to create some tonal variations that will add to the build.
