The laundry room at my house is a long, rectangular space accessible via the carport. Good ventilation. Decent light. Until today it was a disaster area. My wife is on break from school and her main project she made up for herself was to clean it up today. Know what she did? She made me a special airbrush area over there by the window! I’d been talking about how much I dislike spraying in my office, and BOOM! She cleared me out a space to surprise me! I can prime stuff and paint stuff in here now! I’m thrilled! This peaceful little nook is all I need! There’s even a cooler for cold beer!

Okay so, I screwed up in one respect- I didn’t do the flaps yet. No problem, I got those primed and am painting them now.

Meanwhile, I tested out salt fading on my paint mule codenamed “Harvey”. Incidentally, Harvey is my first failed Corsair build. The one that made me hate Gloss sea blue. Anyway, back to point, I tested out my salt fading today. Here was my procedure:

1. Spray the base color on the paint mule.

2. Seal it.

3. Let it cure overnight.

4. Spray the paint mule with water mixed with a drop of dish soap.

5. Sprinkle a combination of Kosher salt and sea salt on the paint mule.

6. Wait for it to dry.

7. Make a light gray mixture of paint. I made RLM-02 because I like that color.

8. Thin the crap out of if. I thinned it 5:1 thinner to paint.

7. Spray. I did six passes with my airbrush @ 17 PSI

8. Let dry. Then wash off with wet paper towel.

9. Spray again with water and dish soap solution.

10. Put more salt on there.

11. Spray with kustom RLM-71, thinned hella thin like before, six passes with the airbrush.

12. Let dry.

13. Wash off with wet paper towel.

14. Spray with clear.

Here’s the result:

Not bad! I’m only gonna do theee passes with the airbrush on my airplane. Because I also plan to use oils on it.

I have to finish and attach the flaps first. I’m glad I did this test first. I feel good going into it in production after doing this test.

Alright folks, have a good night! I’m watching Raiders Of The Lost Ark with Mrs. Kenny X.
