Great work on that canopy Lyle – it looks really snug now.

In regards to the tail wheel – what I’ve done in the past when I’ve had to replace something like a control stick or tail wheel is create a female locator with a bit of plastic tube glued to wherever you want to mount the tail wheel (assuming it has a location pin of course).

Other than that, what do you think of the kit?

That is a good idea. I'll have to see what I have to make that work. I like the kit, overall. Fit is good.

Could not find any tubes around. I took some wire ("war" for your 'How To Speak Southern' lesson for today), wound it around the stem of the tailwheel piece and made me a tube. That is the good news.


Bad news? Of course. Apparently, I've lost a piece of the nose cone assembly. Yes, it is on the top of the piece and yes it is clear.....

You bring up an interesting question concerning “shrinkage”.

I have no scientific evidence of this, but theoretically it is possible. It’s a concern I had when I moved my base of operations outside to the laundry room off the carport. It’s secure, the kids can’t get in there, so it made sense. But it isn’t climate controlled in there and the weather down here in the swamp has been rather schizophrenic. One day it’s 70, then it drops to 50 in the evening. The next day it’s 40 all day and night. Then 60. And it’s always humid. So I’ve been keeping my WIPs in the house, in my office. To avoid potential shrinkage. So far so good.

Hey, remember me? I've been scratching my head and anything else I can find to come up with a way to replace the small window on the topside of the nose cone on this sucker. Tried to cut one from a CD case. Too thick. Bought some .030 clear plastic sheet at Hobby Lobby. Nope. If you look at the nose piece, that window has some curve. Now I'm thinking, anything out there that I can "cast" or press in place that will dry clear? Can I heat a piece of the clear sheet plastic and introduce a bend? Will Andy of Mayberry ever marry Helen?

Thought about trying the Testor's Clear Plastic cement. Went looking around on YouTube and found a short video on using Micro Krystal Klear. My jar is some what old. . . but never opened. It seemed a bit thick, but it filled that opening quite nicely. Only problem is a bit of a sinking or depression. I may try to push that out or add some additional Klear. Anyway, it will be sufficient for me to get this guy back on the bench.

I’ve seen where guys will mold a piece of sheet plastic such as brass tubing and then immerse it in hot water to heat from the plastic and get it to keep the curvature. Then cut it to shape. I suppose a rubber band will work to hold the sheet over the tubbing.

Oh yes I would believe those 3am ideas... I have been awakened by too many of my own...
