Yes, it is alternate timeline very plausible. Gray base coat with a RAL 8000 Grun Braun scheme field applied. Inner side of any open hatches or vision ports would remain in gray.

You should do a burned out allied tank on the base.

That isn’t a bad idea at all! And as you’ll see from the picture below, the base that came with the kit is in need of a whole lot of help... I’ve got my work cut out for me, in terms of that base. I’m thinking of making it a part of a larger base, and kind of working it in there, and then painting it along with the enhanced base I add to it. And a burned out tank on there would be AWESOME!

I like it when a project takes on a life of its own.

I ended up building it all last night. I couldn’t sleep. So I built. Ban dai’s fantatic engineering combined with their idiot-proof instructions, not to mention the fact there’s no glue required, sure made this easy and fast:



I’m gonna rest my Mr. Surfacer on that base, to make sure it won’t damage the plastic. I don’t necessarily think it will, but I like this model and I don’t want to take any chances. All parts are removable which will make painting and weathering relatively easier than it would be if that wasn’t the case. This is going to look cool with salt chipping/fading, dot fading, washes, and pigments. I’m really excited about this.

Now, in terms of what’s next, I’m going to do Hull Red around the circumference of the feet, and on the knee-shield up there on the right leg. Then use salt masking first for the Grey, and then for the field-applied Trope color. I figure since this thing is walking and not rollling around on tracks, some chipping down to the primer due to stepping on rocks and wreckage and everything else will be okay. I’m very much going to an extreme, weathering-wise. Like this thing had already served in another front, then got sent to Africa, and stayed there until basically the Germans ended up losing the war at which time it was abandoned. It’ll look like a still relatively-functioning derelict.

As for decals. I chose the 15th. Panzer Div. decals for this. They represent a Panzer which was in service in africa in ‘41/‘42. So that holds up with my Trope over Gray paint scheme insofar as we know, how loose this interpretation is notwithstanding.

I have decals for a Tiger, too, but this is better. The AT-ST isn’t a heavy tank like a Tiger. And AT-AT would be more like it.

Okay, so painting may or may not begin tomorrow. I’m taking the rest of the day off today from models so that we can get the groceries shopping done, and I can look after the bébés while Mrs. Kenny X songs at Mass, and then we can watch a movie on TV after the bébés go to bed. Hopefully be in bed early too. I’m zonk’d. Anyway, I might start painting tomorrow. It just depends when my Mother In-Law wants to come over to watch the Saints game. And I’m in no rush. As I’ve learned: rushing can be bad.

The primer coat/black base looks good. No need to rush this at all. You know what you want to achieve, and it sounds like you have a great idea on how to get there.

Yes sir. This’ll be a slow and steady one. I’ve distilled a lot of what I learned with the Panzer and Corsair in terms of weathering effects, and now it’s time to slow down, execute thoughtfully, and relax and enjoy the process.

The difference between kit gray and black primer versions is monumental. One looks good but the other takes on a whole new level of energy—sheep dog to Rottweiler! Congratulations and keep going!
