Kari, ditto—for me, it is a very great privilege to have access to your knowledge of language, the geography and your formidable talents as a model builder. I started debating whether I should “floss,” or sand off the raised hatch bumps on the kit and scribe hatches. There is something about having the cowling be a smooth shape, in addition to being more accurate. There is just a certain something that looks better.

You are right, it should be smooth and instead scribed hatches....

I wish I could be of more help, when I got home this morning I started going through all my books trying to find some more reference material for you. The few books I have that talk about the DO 17 is just its role as a night fighter and nothing about its Finnish service. I hope I can be of more help in the future. When we bought are house and I started to restore it (its a 1895 Victorian) I told my wife I needed a library and so I built me a small one, here she is after I got done building her nothing from a kit drew up the plans myself and built her.

We was still moving in when that was took one day when I have good light coming in I'll take another photo she is packed full now with 90% WWII books most of them on German aircraft and armor. The rest is Vietnam.

I was thinking of one close buddy of mine who grew up on a farm in South Bend the other day. That’s a few hours north of you, I think? It’s been awhile since I was in the Midwest, but part of me misses going to school at NU and work study in Skokie and the good people I met from Kewanee, IL, South Bend, IN and Madison, WI. Lifelong friends. Your library reminds me of the one we had growing up! We had free-standing library bookcases that would close up with glass fronts protecting the treasures within. My Dad was a Civil War & WWI buff. Early black and white glass plate photographs. So detailed. So revealing. I remember having nightmares when it came to reading about the defenders of Little Round Top. I grew up in Pennsylvania amongst tales of bloodshed and sacrifice and honor. Looks like you have created a real sanctum sanctorum—enjoy! p.s. I also “buried the lead” as newspaper writers would say—I should have lead with this—I just bought this used book!
