Those Milliput fills look lovely. I’m going to buy some of that stuff to use, as I’m not really digging working with the Tamiya nor Mr. Hobby putty these days.

Also, I like seeing this bird come together. I’m glad you were able to get some priming done. That gray Mr. Surfacer you laid down looks very good. Silky, smooth, and perfect. And with the new choice in subject, this promises to be a lovely finished product when complete.

Milliput came from John Kim. Not that he discovered it. But he specifically made me aware of it and I actually followed up and am so darn glad I did. I tossed my other tubes of nasty ass environmental enemy goop outta my modeling realm. The only other repair filler I use is CA plus magic dust. I dearly love good CA for seams. It is the final flourish that will render seams glassy smooth... like a surfboard. And you can carve both of these fills once they harden.

Very interesting post from you Bruce, especially pin-pointing the Fiat G.50 ..

There are indeed some other kits that are modified for FAF, both in 1/48 and 1/72 but also a few in 1/32... To mention the most common ones, besides the Fiat, also Brewster 239 Buffalo, Fokker XXI, Morane Saulnier MS-406, Curtiss 75 A Hawk and of course the Messerschmitt Bf 109...

Regarding the Dornier 17 and different scales.. Indeed, does not exist in 1/32 at all. But who knows if this will change, when the restoration of the found Do-17 will some day be done... Then might that the Dornier wakes the interest of more people.. Time will tell!

I did download the instruction sheet of ICM:s 1:48 Do-17 Z kit (not the Finnish version though). And I must say, I am almost drooling when looking at it... I think I will "go and fetch it" from my LHS.... And as we speak, my finger is on the "order" button for couple of "mandatorial" AM things... Masking tapes and decals to extend the options... :-)



The new Revell Do-17 night fighter kit is actually same sprues as ICM:s new 1/72 kit from 2016, in other words it is superb!
However, I am personally not that fond of the Z-10 version, because the nose looks like a puppy, sort of.. :-)

If I now can read and interpret the "family tree" of the 1/72 Do-17, then Frog is the grand father, Revell the father and Matchbox finally the son. So, if I have understood correctly, Matchbox = Frog regarding the Do-17Z in 1/72..

I am also looking forward if Clint would decide to build a Do-17 in any camo of course!

Thanks so much, Clint. One bullet or pair of bullets averted! Let us all hope the seams stay together. (I am not even sure if I should make a joke about this.) However, these seams are backed up with enough Milliput which is hardened against the top bead to really make a solid piece. I suppose for Frog it was just easier and possibly more fun to have the nacelles and the cowlings made of two pieces which glue together, but avoiding a seam line and gaps has been mighty tricky! There is also some CA up top that I am putting faith into not giving up the ghost any time soon.

I am not sure what to do next. Wait for the cockpit, wait for scribing tools or build and detail the landing gear? I was thinking at the start (things I would like to do) and I was thinking one might be to build front landing gear out of brass tubing because I felt I had a lot of it in my inventory... but I don’t know if that is true, I may have used a lot of it up and just forgotten about it! The other thing I was thinking about was priming the underneath, using grey where there is grey and white where there will be yellow... and adding the yellow after that. I would end up with the main wing partially painted but that could work out alright. I’m not sure. Any thoughts? Maybe I will paint engines. I am not really sure what finish to give the braces.

I was researching Frog's history—Frog was a major manufacturer of aircraft recognition models during WWII. This certainly helps explain why the sculptural form of this model is really on point for the era.

Hi Bruce, I should have had it by now but I had it sent to work and I've been off sick for a week - So it's probably sat on my desk.

Yes it is the in-line engine version - I'm thinking maybe a Spanish civil war bird.
