I dig looking at the sprues, Clint! I really do want this kit. It looks like Tamiya’s interior opening for the exhaust could be drilled out, and the series of four openings could be opened as well, if the Exhausts are visible. Really nice looking details! I am still in awe of the BW photos Kari posted with the high degree of variance to the painted paneling. Gorgeous. As far as grey goes, I truly believe that those color slides indicate a dark grey engine as you noted.

That's the plan for tomorrow is to start opening up the exhaust they are very visible. I'm still up in the air on the color of the block if I go with RLM 02 it may blend in with the motor mounts and inside color of the engine bay panels all being RLM02. But the black would give the area a nice contrast, looking at 109s and most other German liquid cooled engines they are in black or bare metal. So I still need to give it some thought. I haven't found any period color photos showing the engine only color photos of restored. But I think both colors would be reasonable. Also that extra tank looks alot like a 109 drop tank.

Was the Argus also used in the Me BF-108 Taifun? Apologies I just came home from work and I am relying on memory. Perhaps this additional aircraft may lead to a color photograph!

Yes it is! I built the Edaurd Bf-108 around 5 years ago and in my research on that build I ended up painting the block black, Thanks for jogging my memory with that.

Really looking forward to seeing this build, the Storch is a great looking aircraft and one I'd love to build one day.

Looking at the photo that Bruce posted from what you can see of the block it looks to be the grey color so that's what I'm going with.
Thanks for looking in.

I would consider RLM 02 for that engine block

I think you could make a good argument on either color. There is nothing written in stone as far as that goes. However, I think that 66 would be too dark but that is just opinion.

Thanks Paul I'm still up in the air on what color I think I'll hit it with RLM02 first and if I don't like it I'll strip it go with black.
