Firstly, Bruce, lovely work! Just lovely!
Second, on the weight loss front.
I fully support any man or woman’s desire to shed weight. Why? Because in terms of longevity, the smaller you are, the better off you are. FACT. Now, this doesn’t mean that every man ought to look like Adam Levine and every woman ought to look like Laura Flynn Boyle. Nosir. Let’s be reasonable about this.
When Instarted powerlifting I weighed 214. I learned very quickly that the more I ate, the stronger I got. So I took my weight up to 285/290 in four months.
That was a silly thing to do.
It took a long time, but I got down to 190. Then went back up to 225.
I hate that yo-yo. I really do. I’m fighting my way back to 200 now. Tooth and nail.
Here’s the advice I have:
1. Do NOT do carb cycling, low carb, carb-backloading, etc. diets. Period.
2. Instead, clean-up the carbs in your diet. Cheetohs and Pop-Tarts get traded-in for steel cut oats, whole wheat bread, legumes like black beans and black eye peas, and fruit.
3. Eat one gram of protein for every pound you’d like to weigh. And get that protein from beef, chicken, turkey, fish, eggs, etc. a big variety.
4. Lift weights. This is non-negotiable.
5. Do cardio. This is also non-negotiable.
6. Eat vegetables with every meal. This is also non-negotiable.
7. (And I hate this one because I love beer) don’t drink sugar.
8. Set a “grams of macronutrient limit”, vis:
150 grams of protein
100 grams of carbohydrates
70 grams of fat
Per-diem and log it all in MyFitness pal every day and do not deviate.
9. Sleep at least 7 hours a night.
If you do all of those 9 things, you will lose weight, your blood pressure and resting HR willl normalize, your lipid numbers will improve, and you’ll feel better all around plus you’ll be strong.
Okay, back to the original topic.

Damn! You really hit that one on the head of the nail Kenny. I'm at 214 right now down from 223 and the only thing that I haven't been doing so far is the cardio. Take care of a pig for FFA and watch your time vacancy disappear. I'm heading back to cardio again this weekend though.

I'm trying to cut down too - I did loose about a stone last year but I've since put it back on again. I'm hoping to get down and stay down year.
Cheers!

Borg—Thank you so much. I always think of your work as inspiration. Your aircraft and dioramas are wonderful. I have a lot to add to this project with photo etch. My birthday is Monday and I plan to spend the day outside enjoying the weather and most important—not working on anything. I am planning a drive—a long one—to be somewhere new for awhile. Tempest, Floki (Clint), Ken, Portman! Cheers! I have to single out KennyX for what amounts to an incredibly thoughtful and useful diet and exercise plan! Also, I doff my hat to Mustang Joe. Heck I doff my hat to all of you. You are all aces.
This is for KennyX:

I’ve been exercising as well. Last year I was diagnosed with high blood pressure. I’m talking 190, 180 range. I dropped from 240 to 220 last summer, BP dropped to a decent 139 - not the best range but better than it was then. With the holidays arrival, I think I may or may not have gained some of the weight back. So back to the gym during these winter months. The missus and I joined for $50/couple per year at the North Utica Senior Center. ( We’re eligible to join if you’re 50 and older)
I started on the treadmill and didn’t like it due to feeling kinda weird after stepping off it. Instead, I’ve been using the Cardio strider for 35 minutes using intervals mode. Then I hop on the epileptic machine for 15-20 minutes - also interval mode.
I tried the rowing machine a couple times but stopped. As some of you heard, I fell at my place of employment this past summer, fractured my right elbow and was out on comp for 10 weeks. I chose not to do the rowing machine due to fear of risking fracturing my elbow. That’s another reason I held off doing weights.
Enough about me and let’s return to our regularly scheduled program....

Thanks for weighing in, BlackSheep! You’re doing well by joining a gym and taking off weight. I start my eating program tomorrow at 4:30-5 am. 5-6 ounces of yams. Then at 6-7 am 3 oz of protein and 1/2 grapefruit. My lunch at 9:00 am is 2-3 oz of tuna and 1/2 apple. At noon I am eating 2-3 oz of fish and 1 cup greens. At 3:00 pm that’s dinner because I get to eat 3 oz of fish, 1 cup greens and a baked potato. My evening snack is at 6-7 pm which consists of 3 oz of protein, 1 cup greens and 1/2 grapefruit.

No. I am going to be a teetotaler for awhile. Wish me luck! I already locked up all the weapons except for the X-Acto knives, lol, and purged the pantry and refrigerator of any “no-no’s” on the list.
