I do a lot of close ups myself of interior and engine work and always put a piece of white paper as a background to take care of any focusing issues.

Yup, your camera has too many distractions to auto focus upon. The cutting mat being the worst offender.

Thanks Mustang I'm giving it a try on the photos I'm posting next but now I seem to have a different problem. It seems like the colors aren't as vibrant and bright with the white paper under. Same lighting maybe it's just me.

I'm going to invest in a new camera and a photo booth here soon to try to get good quality photos like I see from all of you guys.

Alright I'll start with some new photos of the engine to see what you guys think I'm still not getting the exhaust work to really show up I promise it looks a lot better in person.



Also got some weathering done on the cockpit. Using some Mig pigment mixed with a bit of water and weathered the floor and bottom parts of the wall. I then went back and got rid of about 80% of it with a stiff brush.



Then I closed the sides up it fits together very well. I had two spots where I need some filler so using PPP I masked both sides of the seam layed in the PPP then smoothed it out with a damp finger then removed the tape after it had dried for about 15min. This photo is before I sanded it. It was my own fault that it even needed filler I had drop my touch n flow while closing the sides up and it landed right on the edge of seam and a bit came out causing a sink hole but no big deal it's fixed now.


Like I had said the colors just don't seem as vibrant now.

Clint, if you have an iPhone, the photo editing software already in there can enhance your photos quite a bit,.. like they do with mine in spite of myself. Some plain non white paper can alter the way the way colors stand out.

No its a Nokia windows 10 phone. It has one of the best cameras you can get in a cell phone 3 years ago.

Well, they probably have sort of similar photo editing software in there. The phone producers all try to one up each other... fool around with it and see what you might find....

Clint! Wow! What a difference seeing your work this way—especially because of the qualities of heated metal on the exhaust, what looks like grime done beautifully around the seals, and all of the wiring additions, which truly create a model in itself.



Before you seal this up inside the cowling, I have a couple suggestions for photos just of the engine. I will make some sketches. It’s up to you if you want to try them out but I think a change in angle and the way the engine is supported will help—and I understand the twin exhausts need to be protected. Give me a moment to make these sketches...

Popcorn! A “moment” stretched a little longer then that, apologies. So after I ate, here’s what I came up with—the standard angles for eBay, with a single sheet of paper taped to a table at the edge—this is important because you want an eyeline level shot...



Here is a really rough set up, using a coffee cup, and art supplies:

I have been using these set ups since day one here. Here is a shot taken the same way:!



And what is baking my noodle is the previous conversation about Left to Right versus Right to Left, Winners versus Losers in battle... I always orient the light to my left. This last shot of a P-51D engine was taken six months ago.
