What color, too? There is no mention on any profile. I assumed this was because it was a weathering effect, so there was no need for any call outs.

Re: Pacific Coast Models 1/32 Fw 190A-0. Black 13. Belgium,
Thanks, John—I appreciate your thoughts. I can definitely see where the paint ends but where does it begin and why did they add paint...? What purpose does it serve? I could see maybe a section painted on the wing as an anti slip aid perhaps, but why paint the wing root? I dunno. I definitely see what you see, though. The hard edges are there without any fading effects.

Late to the party here but like has already been said that area would be painted black. I'll have a flip through my books tonight if I have time and see what I can find for you, we'll be leaving early tomorrow morning for Columbus Ohio.

Clint, you are never late. No pressure. I am early in thinking about painting a fuselage detail, but I definitely wanna know how to do this and why it was done before I start. I am building my own set of profiles in Photoshop for this project. I do not understand at the moment where the black section begins yet. Good luck in Columbus! Definitely keep us informed about what you see and best of luck with the contest judges!! TGIF

Re: Pacific Coast Models 1/32 Fw 190A-0. Black 13. Belgium,
Decided to have a flip through a book called the Aircraft Encyclopedia of WWII, It's always a starting point for me since about everything used in WWII is in it and this is what I found sorry they are just black and white but it may give you a better idea on where to start.

Here is some off google

Here is a A3 with the eagle wing? painted on the side like Carlos had said earlier.

Thank you so much, Clint. These images truly help push away the confusion. I am referencing this profile:

Hang on. I am going to add the actual images. And this:

I am trying to squeeze out a sketch.

Re: Pacific Coast Models 1/32 Fw 190A-0. Black 13. Belgium,
Hmmm. It looks like the panel right behind the exhaust was painted black but the Butcher Bird wing(not sure what to call it) looks like it was there but the paint has mostly been wore off. That color profile also shows it to be the same RLM color as what is painted on the wing.

Re: Pacific Coast Models 1/32 Fw 190A-0. Black 13. Belgium,
Thanks, Clint. You are on to something with the color being the wing camouflage color. Perhaps this was extended up to the fuselage to cover repairs to the wing.

Re: Pacific Coast Models 1/32 Fw 190A-0. Black 13. Belgium,
I think it might go up even more past the panel that what you have shown.
Maybe the entire wing was painted on the side at one time and it being mostly gone now is due to repair?
This has to be my favorite part of a build all the research into the history of the subject you are doing.
