Duke, you honor me. Thank you. Thank you so much. I really enjoyed this one, and fact about it- I liked it so much I’m doing a Panzer III because they’re basically the same chassis and I’m not done with that chassis yet!

Welcome to the Dark Side Kenny! Your Stug came out great! Something that you can certainly display with pride. Your Firefly is on the way to looking even better.
Very well done sir!

Thank you, Carlos! I am really enjoying my venture into armor.

I screwed up on the StuG. I painted it German Gray instead of Field Gray. I didn’t look closely enough at the instructions..:

But that’s okay! I’m proud of it, AND, I’m loving that chassis and it just so happens I have a Panzer III in my stash, by Dragon, same chassis, which I started last night I during a late-night conference call! I’m looking improve it here:

This one’s for Bruce! Let’s see if this new painting technique I’m working on is repeatable! This time in proper Field Gray!

Kenny, don't go to the dark side, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Looking good, pal.

No you didn’t. You did right. German Gray is good for Panzer Gray. Field Gray is a uniform color, not a vehicle color.

Ah! Awesome! Very awesome!

I wonder why Tamiya would call out Field Gray? Probably a misprint. Like the one in the Corsair instructions that has you paint the engine’s crank case the wrong color.

Well cheers then, to deftly missing misprints in the instructions by not reading them thoroughly, and ending up painting the correct color!!

Do they really call out for Field Gray as the overall vehicle body color? Oh wow, huge gaffe on their part. Field Gray is the name of the color of fabric for German army uniforms. Metal uniform objects such as the helmet, gas mask case, mess kit, and canteen cup are in a different color, Olivgrau. Which, of course, Tamiya does not make. But Vallejo and Testors do make it.

Here is a commonly seen original WWII color photo showing all three different shades. Panzer Gray, (actually Gray RAL 7021), Feldgrau, and Olivgrau (RAL 6003). Yes is is not a dead on photo for perfect color reference, but you can see differences between each shade.

A nice original color WWII photo from the Bundesarchiv that I just found. Beautiful reference. And an interesting unique turret stowage bin on the Panzer IV in the foreground.
