Thanks guys. This kit has some of the "Let's roll" - at least the roundel below the cockpit. No teeth, though. Man, those are lovely pictures. To me, (I promise not to cry) the A-10 has become such a classic airframe - What happens when the designers get it right. Much like the DC-3 typifies the transport age. Love 'em. I sure hope those high--priced bellhops don't replace it with the F-35. Bad move.

The A-10 is awesome. Unfortunately, somewhere down the road, it will be retired. The F-35, is nowhere near in the same league as the Warthog... Armored? Nope... Loiter time? Nope... BIG gun? Nope... But it is what the bosses in the five sided puzzle palace have decided will replace so many Cold War legacy aircraft. And unfortunately with today’s current crop of folks making those decisions, both civil and military, I don’t see that changing. The plane that the Air Force did not really want, and has been trying to kill off for the past 30 years just wont go away quietly.

I don't see why they would want to take the fast moving multi million dollar F-35 (that we didn't need since we just got the F-22 program running smooth then dropped it) and put her down in the dirt. But the A-10 is still flying for one we ain't got nothing else that can do the job the way it does. The forge I work at we make jet engine parts and we are still making tons of fan blades for the A-10

The F-35 was designed to fulfill the same role as the F-16 for the USAF. Which they also wanted to do the CAS role. They never wanted the A-10. And when the Air Force held trials for the F-16 in the CAS role, it was found to be inferior to the A-10. The F-22 was supposed to replace the F-15, but due to the decision to cut the production numbers, never fully could. The F-22 is pure air superiority, the F-35 “multi role”. But that multi role is air to air and battlefield interdiction/strike, with stealth. Not the down in the dirt gun fight the bad guys of the A-10 CAS/ FAC roles. Against a near peer opponent, the A-10 is not as survivable for some roles that it has been used in. That was shown occasionally in Desert Storm where A-10s were going deep, and F-16s were being used in the battle area. And each type suffered losses accordingly.
No aircraft currently out there or in evaluation can perform CAS like the A-10. But the fighter mafia that runs the USAF currently and since the 80s does not like or want the type. Only it’s stellar performance over the battlefield, and some folks in Congress who have been on the good side of such events have saved the A-10 from the chopping block.

The current Air Force boss was recently reported as saying that the A-10 is NOT going anywhere anytime soon.

Oh and the US Navy REALLY does not want or like the F-35. In fact they'd much rather have more Super Hornets than the F-35.

Can you blame them? I’d take a Super Hornet over an F-35 any day.

Oh, and Lyle—for what it’s worth I would spray a coat of clear coat, slide the decals and markings in place, add your final UV flat clear and leave it looking factory fresh—with that “Clean Warthog Smell.”
