Unless there is a visual reason not to go for it, I would just go for it, John. With the new photo studio you are using taking photos is gonna really be a way to showcase the details anyway. I think the member Lawdog or Lawman here on Spam at one point used to show the cockpit in the fuselage halves before buttoning the fuselage up. I always appreciate that kind of visual record, and you could easily come up with a few “hero shots” of your completed cockpit your way, to do the same thing.
Thanks Clint and Bruce! I'm totally ok with putting in details that will eventually be covered up. However, knowing this may affect the level of detail that I decide to put into the cockpit. For example, I've seen some structure/wiring that others have added to that front bulkhead. But since it is set behind the instrument panel, I've decided not to do anything there. Stuff that might be more visible... yeah, I'll consider enhancing like the throttle quadrant, which sits pretty high in the cockpit. The life of my models resides in the construction stage and since I am doing fairly extensive photo documentation of the build, the work that is hidden has been shown in good detail with photographs and is not a wasted effort.

Thanks Kenny! That's Mr Hobby Aqueous Interior Green H-58.

Thank you Medic! Hopefully, I can make more progress on the rest of the cockpit so you can see what the rest of the components look like. Tamiya has done a fantastic job with this kit. Well worth all of the praises that have been heaped upon this kit.

Replaced port wing from an older Corsair? Note the older style star without bar insignia and what possibly looks to be a lighter color on that port wing? Considering painting this wing in the older two-tone Non-Specular Blue Grey shade.

Exterior issues aside, the work on the inner Corsair creeps along. Here's the seat. It's made up of four parts including a etched metal part.
Image

The rear bulkhead, which will ultimately hold up the seat was my next painting assignment. On the other message board, I was informed that there were various cockpit components painted in a Dark Green due to more than one contractor supplying the cockpit sub-assemblies. No specifics were given on WHAT might be Dark Green. I thought about doing the seat but I decided to do the seat mounting frame and panel behind it.

The seat was chipped using the MIG Scratches Effect fluid and given a dirty wash. The base metal finish was kept dark to help tone down the shine of the chipping effect.

Also painted at this time was the intermediate bulkhead that houses the foot pedal controls. Chipping was done on the pedals and also the plate beneath the pedals. The components have not been glued together yet and I was only able to get a single shot before the assembly kept coming apart in my light box. I've given the instrument panel some light chipping along the edges to better match the worn surroundings.

And here is the control stick painted up. Not sure what that cone thing is...almost could double for a pee-pee relief container. I added a wire to the end of it.

The central cockpit station between these bulkheads is still to come.

A small note—yesterday I was researching your cockpit green and came across a thread on Britmodeler where DDG / black was discussed for some interior components. I am so sorry that I did not mention this yesterday. I know I was reluctant to quote anyone without a secondary source. I did find that source in Dana Bell's volume II on the Corsair. There is quite a bit of variation inside the cockpit. I initially started on this quest because I was thinking of the very bright green which was in the photo you posted on my thread. That reminded me of a ton of ZCG research I did for another project (the Kubrick Moonbus interior) and I wanted to find out how Corsair interiors were painted.

I was actually researching your very interesting thought to make one wing come from another aircraft. I would do this in a New York minute. I was thinking how much fun it would be to isolate another aircraft that was cannibalized for parts with a different scheme and level of weathering as well. I just think yes please yes do it. My research hit a dead end. I kept thinking, 'Why don't you do the other aircraft, number 88-something-883? because there are a lot of photos of that one,' but that it is just because there were a lot of photos of the other aircraft... anyway it is after 1 am and I am tired.

The other part is confession. I completely enjoy visiting here. It's simply the high point of my night. After all the model building I am doing it is such a treat as well as an honor to see what you are doing. I see how much there is to learn! Cheers.

what they said! :P1:

Busy weekend for me so I didn't get much bench time. I glued together the standing pilot figure to see how he looks. The molding is a noticeable notch below resin standards but the pose is pretty good. I'm going to try and give figure painting another go, just for practice.

My order of AK Real Colors (AIR) came in this week and picked them up at the LHS today. I got a whole set of Late Luftwaffe colors and also the three colors for the Corsair. I taped off the engine nacelle mule and shot half of it with the AK colors. I put a pastel wash just to give it a layer of weathering.
Image

Here's the previously shot side with the Mr Hobby Aqueous. The most obvious difference is the Intermediate Blue. When checking the bottles, I noticed that the Intermediate Blue that I had used was not H-56 Intermediate Blue but was Mr Hobby Acrysion N-56 Intermediate Blue. Unbeknownst to me until just now, I actually have an older bottle of H-56, which looks very similar to the AK. Acrysion N-56 is not a good match for Intermediate Blue in my eyes and I'll be going with the AK set of colors.
Image

The three AK colors went on VERY smooth, thinned 3:1 with 91% iso alcohol. This should simplify painting since I've got the three base colors without having to custom mix.

So weird seeing that jumo in US navy colors. 3:1 that's thinner:paint right? And not paint:thinner? I just got mine in the other day and haven't got to spray them yet I was going to start with the same ratio I use for Tamiya.
