She got primed then a preshaded with Tamiya Nato black and some patches sprayed in no set pattern. Also went a head and installed the guns they needed a bit of superglue filler easier to sand that down before paint, just hope I don't break any off. The front windscreen is set in place the rear is being held on with blue tack from the inside to be removed after painting. I masked off the wings and gearbay and painted AK RC RLM76 thinned 2:1 (Thinner:Paint) and built up the color slow. This is about 5or6 light coats. Next will be adding the Maketar masks to the top of the wings and sides of the fuselage, I'm going to use the Eaglecals decals for the bottom of the wings. I'm not to sure still how to use the Maketar masks, they don't show you on there website just that color instructions are included well my 3 packets of masks I bought came with no instructions.

The preshading looks good, Clint.

I've read some reports about decal solution causing stains and even dissolving AK Real Color paints. I've conducted some small tests on my paint mule using Micro Sol and Solvaset and haven't run into anything significant but I'd recommend a clear coat over the camo before decals just to be safe.

I second what John wrote about the delicacy of the AK range not from actual experience and not from being an alarmist either. I like his idea to add a protective sealer coat a lot. I do have a question—why not use the masks on the lower wings too? Are these not reusable?

There are different ways to cut masks and to use the masks provided and I'm not familiar with Maketar. These may be different from yours but I thought this tutorial by Montex would be helpful in the general use of masks.

The more complicated the pattern, the more difficult a mask is to use. For your Focke-Wulf, the underwing crosses would be most difficult so using the decals is not a bad idea, especially since this would be your first experience with masks. Those long thin pieces in a mask (i.e. the black borders on the underwing crosses) are a bear to manage.

Thanks for the link John. I always put down a gloss coat before decals but that is good to know just in case. Bruce they can be reusable, Maketar are made from kabuki the same stuff as Tamiya tape. But also the underwing crosses won't be as visible and no one is going to be picking her up to closely inspect them since like all my others she will be fastened down to a base. Again anyone who loves Tamiya style acrylic paints or believe acrylic paint is no good needs to give these AK Real Color paints a go. I'm very impressed and can't wait to use them on my king tiger.
