I went through this early into the P-51D build because The Reaver was building resin wing panels for 1/32 Tamiya kits with “quilting,” and the work was much more subtle and effective. Frankly I have been so fed up with this three month life disruption that I am ready to buy a Monogram Hellcat and build it box stock, brush paint and see how close I can get to a flight deck ready fighter. Personally I am still smarting over a remark made by a rather big deal in the aftermarket industry that “innovation in American model building is in decline.” No I’m not smarting I’m furious with that statement. It’s wrong headed. It’s racist. It’s short sighted. I firmly believe that all model building is rising to new heights through 3D printing. I had to turn aside doing a medical frigate from ESB but that was a thing of beauty as a 3D print.

Regarding paint. I feel paint should be handled as you see fit and I will follow you anywhere you want to go. You always have my support because you are innovating and invigorating model building so well.

I support your decision to do a bone-stock Monogram Hellcat 100% if you decide to do it. Shoot, man, sometimes I wonder what would happen if I did that with a Monogram kit or a Revell kit or something like that. Brush painted all the way. I did a Hasegawa Warhawk like that once when Incame back to the hobby. I hate it now. But at the time I enjoyed it.

As to innovation, I agree. They made a painfully shortsighted statement, saying that. And I think it’s complete BS too. Every letter of it. Wver single one.

I’ll be getting started on the engine kit tomorrow or over the weekend. I’m still stuck with the cockpit. Eduard, in my subjective opinion, has done a crappy job with the detail top-side on the side panels. And I hate the overall look of the cockpit it’s self as well, and I’m trying to keep that from killing my enthusiasm. So I’m plannning my next move on that and my paint work in there is gonna have to be a Windex job I dare say. It’s fine. Usually I grow fond of things I start out hating when I’m building. I’m sure that will happen here too.
