TGIF. The kit designers made the call with the join placement—if they placed that on the actual panel line then at least you could make the joint depth consistent, too. From what I know of your approach you sussed out every move you could make to make this right like a chess grand master, Joe. Like I wrote, you got this and you found your solution to get this done. I also know you well enough I hope to know when you write that you are still working on feathering in the finish that a lot of magic happens when you do that. A lot of magic. Tons. I hate that kit seam though—let that fall on the panel line. I suppose the design is an attempt to give the modeler a few millimeters to make a major construction join disappear. Tough call. You got your finish magic mojo happening, and that is gonna make this work!

Glad you are back on this Joe, just call it a "battle damage panel" and keep going. It looks awesome so far! If Tamiya can replicate them on their kits so can you!

Thanks fellas! I really appreciate all the good comments here. This is a pretty good break through for me as this has been the turning point in me finishing this retirement project. It had been sitting on my shelf for over three years with me figuring out how to tackle this part. Sometimes I guess the best way is to just dive right in. This is also part of what's kept me from building another aircraft build. I don't like starting other aircraft builds with one sitting there in front of me unfinished and this one did just that. I never boxed it up or put it out of sight. She's been right there in front of me the whole while.

Joe, that is what I do. After all considerations, if I haven't found a solution then I just dive right in and just get it done. I personally hate having models languishing on my workbench for so long. By three years, it's like fingernails on a chalkboard for me. Your solution worked and the seam looks natural like it's supposed to be there. I commend you on your skill and ability to make this look so magnificent. Keep it coming man!

Thanks Mark. I really appreciate that. I am still working on this bird. It's slow but it's constant progress till it's done. I'm still working in some clean up and sanding on the metric chassis Malibu and that one is shaping up nicely...………..maybe too nicely.

Well.....for what this is worth I got the flat coat applied this morning. No fading on the sides but some on the upper surfaces of the bird. I'm hoping I didn't go too far.
