Stuart's D-Day Dakota - Airfix 1/72

I'm kind of enjoying my step back into 1/72 with my Me410 build and fancied cracking into something else - so I pulled this out of the stash.

As it's just gone the 6th of June - I think I'll build it as a D-day bird complete with stripes. I need to get some more decals though so I'll probably go with these. I need to back mark the dak from a mk.IV to a mk.III. I'm not sure what the changes will be so I'd better do some research.

It should be a fun build - I'll see how far I get before the jet GB.

Quite nice, old chap..Pip, pip...Cheerio and all that. Eager to see this one from you.
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

Thanks Lyle - Looking forward to building it. Kinda inspired by your Boeing actually. I've never built this type of aircraft before.

I’ll definitely be watching this one. I think the only visible difference in the different C-47 versions is the size of the intake scoops on top of the engines.

So.. If just stick mk.III decals on a MK.IV, chances are nobodies going to notice...? :giggles: I won't tell anyone if you don't!

I’d say that is a safe bet. One version has a long fairing behind the scoop, the other has just a small scoop. I don’t know which is which... :headslap:

Go for it, Stuart! Somewhere out there is a rivet counter that needs work.

Perhaps if I did one engine with one and the other with the other...

I had half an hour to play last night, so I built up the internal structure. I'm not overly sure what the point of having the Navigators and Radio Operators positions is - as none of it will be seen, but it was fun to put together.

I've also started playing around with colours. The callout is for US interior green, but having been in some DC-3's it just seems a bit too light to me.
