I had forgotten about the Pinto's there Lyle but you're right about both cars cleaning up well.

Yes sir I did wet sand the car with the decals on but it did have (and not a very good one) a clear coat on it. It was just a tad too rough for my liking so I wet sanded to get everything all nice and smooth and shot a coat of "Wet Look" Clear over it. After this cures out I'll be wet sanding and polishing it up for a more glassy shine.

Looks like I'll be switching the 427 engine that's in it now out for a 429 Boss engine. Look like the boys at Jo-Han got that part wrong.

Had a Pinto..74, I believe. Not a bad car, That and the Maverick did clean up pretty well.

So, you wet sanded a finished model with decals? I am assuming it had a clear coat. I still glue my fingers together...

My thoughts exactly. How many coats of clear is recommended to wet sand safely and polish?

Bruce: Those are some nice engines but the one that is period correct for these rides are the 427 SOHC engines. Like this:

Sorry for my error! My dad is rolling his eyes up in heaven. Do you remember the Green Grabber? He had one. I drove it from PA to Florida. I think your first pic looks a lot like the V8 from a Grabber. Is it? 302 V8

Thanks, Joe—again I apologize for the wrong motors—our mailman’s son grabbed the Grabber when my folks downsized to move to Florida. It went to a good home and the last time I was in PA it was still going strong. She is a tough old gal.

And so much fun to drive, Joe. Me and my best friend Ray Lesko took turns driving. The only trouble we ran into was a storm crossing into Florida. The South serves up some heavy storms, as you well know.
