I saw the Airfix P-51 Mustang kit at my HL as well ... next to that P-40 kit.

Now where did I put that stack of Mustang decals?

Ok, ok. Well so far I can say:

This kit is really really nice! Now there are a couple wonky thing with the kit but not bad enough to deter people from buying and building this. Where I am at currently in the build is far enough to know this is a buy again worthy. Seriously if you are on the fence, just buy the damn kit! Plus it is an American classic, what else is not to love about it?

The cockpit has nice detail and you could easily go crazy with how much you can put in there. I went the simple route and left it on the dirtier side since the boys in Hawaii don’t know how to keep their boots clean in the tropic climate.


After the cockpit is installed you add a couple more parts for the radiators and then you close her up. Going the simple route will have you building this fairly quick, adding extra details will barely slow you down. Fitment of parts is really good, just remember to dry fit. One cool tip and feature of this kit (don’t think this was intentional by Airfix) is when you install the front radiator piece, do so right as you are joining the fuselage halves BECAUSE there is access panels on the top of the cowl you will be installing after the fuselage is glued together. Stick long tweezers (one arm in each opening) and apply slight pressure forward on the front radiator to have a flush fit.

Outstanding work with the cockpit!

Indeed, no real need to add details, it is a sharp pit!
