What an incredible situation, Carlos. I am trying to imagine 2 minutes to break down and then 2 minutes to assemble your rifle... without the 12 miles before! You are right that would take a level of concentration and discipline—the mental game—as well as the physical—to achieve. Ya know I have written this before but the very best storylines in the Clone Wars animated series are really about combat situations and I believe that the long story arcs from TCW are superior to everything except the OT. I watched "Landing at Point Rain" from the second season a few nights ago—the Normandy Landings in the Star Wars Universe.

Bruce the clone wars is a great show! I heard a few months ago that Disney was going to start making more of them, hope they are just as good.

Carlos: I don't think I could break down my AR that fast, the AK on the other hand that would be a breeze as long as the dust cover wants to play fair on reassembling some times they pop right back on other times you have to convince it.

Bruce, I do need to check out that series... one day soon I will do so. I do love how sci fi takes a look at warfare of the “future” .... even if it was “a long time ago...”

Lyle, thank you. Those days are long behind me now. I can only imagine how today’s infantryman has more tasks to master. Lots more high tech stuff. Of course they grow up with it from childhood, so it is second nature to them. But the buttstroke and bayonet are always effective tools for close in mayhem. That hasn’t changed since men started organizing to fight one another in groups long before firearms were invented.

Clint. Yes, the AK family is more simple. But Eugene Stoner’s design has many virtues, especially in range and accuracy from the A2 onwards. Repeated training gets one to easily performing the task in well under the allotted time. Getting the handguards on and off all depends upon the amount of times that has been done on the particular rifle. Wear on that spring helps a lot!
