I like adding strip styrene ahead of time to reduce the gaps where needed. Test fit and sand until the fit is just right.

Good points! This is a technique I need to gain confidence using. My first layer of putty reveals a surface that will require still more putty...

Kind sirs! This is quite possibly the toughest seam I have
ever ever ever ever filled! Harrumph! Round 2 begins! Hopscotch is over! Harrumph! Gloves are off.

That's what I call a proper modeling adventure. A saga, maybe. You bring an intensity into the game not many people are capable of. You got your own style, Bruce. And I have to say that I really like it.
