Pretty sure that under KY law, you can withhold rent in these situation. But, that isn’t CA.

”We shall see,” said the blind man. I don’t know about CA law, but I do know that a suitable fix has to be made as soon as possible. He rather grandly stated that at least he does not find me at fault for what happened! Believe me if this was affecting him he would be hollering like a man with a hot poker up his butt.

Bruce I'm really sorry to hear this, a lot of times contractors hire general workers under the table mostly guys who can't pass a drug test anywhere else. At least that has been my experience. Makes me glad I can do about everything myself and if something breaks or is screwed up I have only myself to blame. It seems like this project is taking them forever, I hope he's not charging you full rent as this is going on. The good news is, it shouldn't last forever and you can get your life back on track hopefully soon.

Damn that sucks!! I'd have that landlords ass!! We rent a house and thankfully we haven't had issues like that. I'd figure out what you can do to get them to fix that right away.

Thanks, Clint. I am pretty sure our experiences are a bit similar growing up. I have already done the plumbing areas, patching the shower walls and replacing the faucet taps. I hesitated on fixing the bathtub washers and foolishly told him to get the plumber to do it due to having to shut off water to the building. I basically patch and paint myself here because he will never do it. I would rather own a place of my own.

Reminds me a quote from one of the best inspirational speech by Rick Rigsby…
" Ego is the anesthesia that deadens the pain of stupidity"

Well you can always fix things yourself and then deduct the cost of repairs from the rent. That should get the landlords attention...
