Or you could just leave it off, or paint over it. A lot of crews in the ETO painted over the white star markings as they made very nice aiming points for German anti-tank gunners. I've seen a few photo's of knocked out Shermans with a hole through the star.

Loving the build by the way Lyle - a great oldie. I'd love to get the standard kit of the Half-track but they seem as rare as anything these days. You're going great guns with it.
