Monogram 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A-"Under Glass" 03-15

I've learned a couple of tricks on the body repair and shot a test piece to try it out on so I don't mess my work up on the body that I have. While I'm waiting on the stuff I to iron all that out, I've started on a replacement engine for this thing. This is what I started out with. Keep in mind I was 14 when I built this and back when painting as much stuff in Chrome Silver was cool.



I started on a replacement engine here:



and what a nasty seam it had...................Jeez!



We fill in the seams and start out with some black primer on the block:



Next we start building up the paint in layers to get the right shade of orange:



She's already taking shape:



and the seam is almost all but gone:

Did build exactly the same kit back then and when looking at your first pictures in the opening post I first thought: where did he get my build from?
I really like the story on this so special build! Your brother will have tears in his eyes when he gets the Challenger from your hands!

Ok fellas. Its been a while since I've posted in here. Just busy like crazy. Will get back on the picture posting and catch up to where I'm at now.

Ok we're cleaned up a bit here:



Intake manifold is on:

and a very light wash applied here for a "used" look.

At this point I made a wiring harness with the conduit made out of some telephone wire insulation with the field wire and output wires inserted inside and routed to the alternator.



After that I painted the carburetors with a silver/ gold mix and applied a light wash to give 'em a not so new look.



After that I fabricated a bypass hose from the intake manifold to the timing cover after drilling holes in both locations. I fabricated the hose clamps out of a Chevrolet Fuel Pump Relay coil winding and painted a gunmetal color for contrast.

Here's the exhaust after being coated with primer, then a coat of steel, then a light application of brown wash.



After that came a set of ignition wires from Lex's Scale Modeling:



Then the wires cut to length with sections of wire insulation slid over the ends for spark plug wire boots at the distributor...



and the wires installed with the boots painted..........

Then I did the initial bends in the wires to get 'em pointed towards the cylinders and drilled holes in the spark plug locations on the heads:



and inserted the holding device:



and mounted 'er up to finish bending the wires into place and inserting them into the spark plug holes:

I'd say I'm amazed at the skill, detail and speed....but I'm not. You are quite good at this!
