Today I finished polishing up the canopy, which had been seriously scuffed up in the box over the years. I then gave it a dip in Future to keep the shine going. It’s currently drying in a container to keep any dust off. I spent the rest of the day doing seam clean up and filling on the fuselage. Most of it was good except for in the oil cooler/radiator area where I had to do some filler work, amd a couple of sink areas on the upper & lower engine cowling…



of course afterwards I had to do a test fit of the fuselage to the wings. It’s a pretty snug fit but I can see where some filler will be needed at the joining points



Next up I need to rescribe the detail lost in seam clean up, which really isn’t that much… stay tuned until the weekend for the next update.

Good idea painting the wings in advance. It's funny how many people don't realise the the wings of a WWII 'Stang weren't BMF.

Stuart I wish that I had known about the puttied and filled panel lines on my last Mustang build. I spent hours rescribing raised panel lines on that build. It would have been much quicker to have just sanded them smooth…

Your wings look great Carlos. I am surprised mr surfacer 500 filled those panel lines so well. Seems like it always shrinks too much when I use it for such things...

The first application shrunk up a bit. I could see that after it dried. So I hit those areas with a second dose. Then I sanded it all out. There are still a few “shadows” of the panel lines here and there. But you really have to look hard for those.

I suspect the real aircraft had shadows too Stik.

Stuart, I’ll bet that at some point, the real ones would show such wear after field maintenance… especially at more primitive forward airfields.

Oh totally - I bet there was lumps of missing putty all over the place.
