I've got the chassis as done as it's gonna get. I spent a lot of time removing seam lines and injector pin marks from the replacement rear leaf springs and axle. I tossed the original rear diff cover in some brake fluid and sanded it to a more realistic scale thickness and Alcladed it and also cleaned up the traction bars and chromed those. I cleaned the replacement front suspension up and outlined the front spring detail with a Molotow chrome pen. The base chassis assy is all original and has only been touched up with paint. I touched up the raised brake line and fuel line details with some Aluminum paint using a detail brush and applied a wash over the original silver painted fuel tank just to bring out some of the details.





While I was on the subject of chassis , I thought I'd mock up the suspension one more time. I've changed the original tire layout up since the beginning and have decided to go with this stance with the rear tire juuuuust even with the upper part of the rear wheel opening. So far............I'm likin' this!

Here we are mocked up with the spare body: (the more I look at this........the more I wanna go with some skinnies up front.... )

Ya know, the more I look at this photo..........the more I do wanna put skinnies on the front. Hey.........it's still streetable............right???!!!

Ya mean that some folks don't put the little tires up front and the big ones on back on such a beautiful machine?

Oh yes, I just wanted to add these in here because I knew you'd appreciate them... a chevy 350 he built for an old stepside that he is rebuilding in his garage...

Dang Carlos! He ended up spending some bucks on that thing! Looks like it may be a tightly wound 350 at that with that Edelbrock Performer RPM intake on there. Say somewhere in the 6500 rpm range if the cam and heads are matched up to that manifold and it doesn't look like this guy does anything halfway so I can only safely assume by looking at this beauty that he did. The intake is good for 1500-6500rpm.

Mustang, I'd say go with the 'skinnies' up front! After all, it seems to be the only 'right' thing to do. That would definitely make this car even more impressive.

Carlos, I can almost feel the roar of that engine! That is one awesome powerhouse!

Well folks I got the letters removed from the rear tires and polished up to an acceptable finish on the sidewalls, cleaned up the sidewalls on the front skinnies and sanded the tire tread on all fours. I used a couple of rim backers from my spare 41 Willy's kit and sanded them down so the edges would be flush with the tire sidewalls on the inside of the front wheel/ tire assys.

Here's the before and after of that. OOB on the right and thinned down version on the left:



Here's the set up fellas. Lettering is now gone from the rear tires.



Ummm.................it looks like I've got some smoothing up to do on those wheel edges. Good ol' macro shots..................ya just can't beat 'em.

I shot the gloss coat on this morning and I really couldn't be happier about the outcome. I used MM "Wet Look" gloss coat and it'll dry like this. You can see the chameleon like effect on the lower parts of the body going from green to blue to purple. Now for the week long cure out...................
