1/48 Hasegawa F-4D Phantom Air National Guard

Post by nathant »

This is my most current project. I've wanted to make a ANG Phantom from my home state of North Dakota for awhile now, and finally gathered up most of the bits and started this about 3 weeks ago. I chose the Hase kit over the newer Academy cause I hate chameleon plastic and the cost of the kit is redonkculus...but I didnt' want the old raised panel line Hase kit. So I kitbashed using the recessed detailed F-4J kit. All I need from the old Hase F-4D kit is the front main gear door, pylons, and some antennas. Heres' the goodies:

I had to order at least 3 different decal sheets just to get some generic markings codes, ANG badge and ribbon specific to North Dakota, along with the infamous Happy Hooligans logo.

Here's a list of the goodies:

Aires cockpit
Eduard Brassin wheels and exhaust
Hypersonic models unslotted stabs
Caracals decals, Afterburner decals, Xtradecals, and Kitsworld stencils.
Montex canopy masks
Various weapons from Hasegawa sets

Here's the beatiful Hypersonic stabs:

And some ref pics:

I'll be doing a Hill Gray scheme with the black radome. No chin pod needed.

Here's my progress so far:

Removing the Navy's wheel bumps and rescribing:

Started fitting the resin pit:

More to come soon...

Thanks for the Hoot Hoot Owl!

Jim- That sounds phine. Bug me all you want, I've been working on this one pretty steady and hope to be priming soon. That is good news about the Academy going to a solid color plastic, as I will be building more short-nosed C/D s. That's not my only gripe about the Academy kit though...70 bucks and only 1 crappy decal scheme? No ECM pods or gun pods :Beaver:

This is gonna be epic...because I LOVE PHANTOMS...and you're off to an excellent start.

I LOVE PHANTOMS
So reading between the lines, and taking a wild stab in the dark guess, and it's just a guess you understand - You LOVE Phantoms???

Mind you - I do agree, this is going to be Epic- Great work so far Nathant! :beau:

They are loud and proud planes. KY ANG flew them for a good while after the RF101. Great start.
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

Cant wait to watch this one too Nathan! I love the Phantom and have one waiting in the wings as well. I too am modeling mine after the Idaho Air National Guard F-4G. As soon as I get my 109 completed, that is where I'm going next.

Hey, anyone know if the Navy style refueling prob door was on the F-4C/D? I know the prob itself was gone of course but was the door still on the starboard fuselage? Wondering if I need to fill that on my kit?
