Emhar 1/72 F4J-B Fury

Post by Stuart »

Hi all,

Sorry - it's been a while since I posted some wip - here's what got on the bench today.

I've been working on this one for a while on and off and just picked it up again today.

Emhar is a British kit maker - I've never heard of them until now but they do a couple of nice (and rare) USN subjects in 1/72. The kit is a bit rough around the edges and harks back to the old days of Airfix and Matchbox, has raised panel lines and is a lot of fun to build :yipee:

Annoyingly although the B was built as a ground attack version the kit comes with 4 sidewinders and nothing else. The plan is too rob some Bullpups off a Hasegawa Skyhawk kit I have and scratch-build the targeting pod.

Progress so far...(I did actually S/B a cockpit but forgot to picture it - what's seen below is what comes with the kit)

And with my Sabre...

More to follow shortly.

She looks pretty good so far. How was the fit?

It's not bad - along the lines of an old Aifix of Matchbox kit. It goes together well but there's always a little bit of seam work to do - generally because of a step on the bottom. The wings went on ok with no filler needed at the roots on the top side, although the outer panels have needed a bit as they were designed to be folded (but I'd rather they weren't). I might also have to re-profiles the leading edge of the tips as they are a bit square.

I used 'perfect plastic putty' which made life much easier - no needto break out the basic putty.

The only really bad bit so far was the nose part, which did require a little bit of fettling to get to fit nicely.

So nothing too taxing :whiteflag:

That is a nice small Navy jet, coming along good Stuart!

I was not aware of the Emhar makes (or made) also airplanes.. Thought they just concentrated on tanks, mostly from 1st world war.

But clearly this is not the case! :-)

Man, that is looking really good. Is it an airplane?
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

I've not done a lot with this other than a small amount of tinkering here and there over the past month.

I've got the decals and top coat of satin on, and am just started to paint up the gear and pylons.

Thanks BlackSheep - I have to say I'm not 100% happy with the finish as I had some issues with the paint. Gull Grey/White is something I need to work on - it's not easy to brush. Gloss paints can be a pain (had a bad problem with dust too).

I've got to clean the sensor on my DSLR this week (I've got some bits to do it) - If I can sort it I'll take some better pictures.

Cheers
