Models for presents
Models for presents
What do you guys do when you get models for presents? Do you build them straight away - or do they get put into the stash for years collecting dust?

Re: Models for presents
I have not received any models as gifts, friends know I buy my own and that I'm selective in what I build.
My wife gives me cash as a gift and tells me to get what I want.

I agree with Tojo and Blacksheet, i don't really get model presents..
But if, tricky question... Might be that in some situations I would feel pressure to finish the gift.. In worst case it would even be a kit I would never ever have wanted..
So, i am sort of happy I don't get any... Easier at least this way..

Re: Models for presents
I have received, literally, a couple of models from friends in the past 30 years as gifts. Both went into the stash although one was built within a short time afterwards. The other is still in my stash. The last time that I received a model from family as a gift was from my parents decades ago before I joined the Army.

Actually I am jealous. I have a 150+ stash so I should be set until my retirement. But I still buy stuff. And OT I get models ( and Am) as presents. I make a very specific wish list. So I use ally get stuff I want. And then it collects dust like the rest of the stuff. But I was very happy when I opened my present.

Re: Models for presents
I got a couple of Trumpeter (1/32 F6, 1/32 F4U) a few years ago at Christmas. They were on a list given to wifey. Then the three 1/144 craft last year. Two of the three built, the F6 is started and gathering dust. Like many have said, family doesn't have a clue on what to buy for me.
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

Re: Models for presents
I don´t get kits as gifts at my birthday, Christmas, and so on. I buy my own. 99.9% of my relatives don´t know anything about what to get me as a present because they don´t have an idea about my hobby. Fine for me.
When there should be a totally new 1/32 scale F-4U Corsair I tend to get it for Heidi, but times are tough these days in regards to new such kits...

Re: Models for presents
I've only received a couple of kits as a gift, and both of them came from fellow builders. One of them has been added to the "stash" and the other is currently a WIP. As for family and friends buying me kits, doesn't happen. Typically they know (or ask my wife) where I get most of my kits and they end up getting me a gift card from that retailer so I can buy whatever. My wife said that she would never go and buy kits or supplies for me because she doesn't know what I prefer or what supplies I use the most, and she says she doesnt need that kind of stress.
