Old Airfix Sea King in Norwegian markings

Post by BsYamato »

About a year ago finally found my first sea king, the old fujimi box; the friend that sold me the kit added two airfix too! one (this) are the older mould of the kit and the other are the about eighteen years rebox with new parts. Recently get the the new good revell kit version (about the correct version to build this westland MK.43B version. but i'll mix the kit and the revell will be the italian SH-3D version with adequate corrections..) .

Now i can't leave the two old kits as they are.. confrontations with the two newer kits shows the main errors of these kits. Basically main errors are in the cockpit areas, included the orrible canopy :DH:

So, in this first experiments will try to correct this old kit to obtain a canopy mould to use ever for the other one.
Between the four kits i have a good number of spare parts to use as the version required.

Decals , not complete for the version , i'll print in some waymissing decals after.

Image

Working starts, the other one is the revell as dime :)

Image

heres fuselage gap. The airfix uses the same section fuselage in the cockpit area instead of the revell and fujimi that have a different shape in the top and cockpit zone

Image

Lots of measuring, the base of canopy mould

Image

Front engines, both are wrong but the airfix worst

Image

removed the problem for now

Image

To set the SH-3 version to an MK.43 some new window will be opened (the yellow other airfix spotted!)

Image

Image

new windows ready, the larger one will be resized after (i forget.. even exhausts was removed..)

Image

Drop windows will be from the revell?

Image

The norwegian sea king have a large radar radome after the engines bridge. I found one in.. the revell kit :)

Image

he works (notice another cut of plastic after the rotor basement..)

Image

The long antenna.. revell kit too .. wil be used

Image

Probably the main blades need an heavy restiling :hmm:

Image

That's all for now..

This is the complete sea king program:

This one

the yellow airfix

and the revell

At the next :)

BSY, your projects are not only a pleasure to watch, but also usually informative and educational...

BSY, looking at all the work you are doing to get such an old kit improved you easily could start from scratch... I think the best part of this Airfix kit is the box art! Man, I love those atmospheric pictures!

The only gig that an old NASA fan like me can say is that BSY is not building "Old 66"...

I love "Old 66"! I still remember watching that helo on TV as they pulled the astronauts from the command module.
