THE MOON BUS / 2001:A SPACE ODYSSEY

Aurora Model Kit 829 / 1969

The kit I always wanted to build. To achieve the photos, I suspended the model above a custom lunar surface built by Matthew Benware. I removed the wires afterwards.

:shoutout: Very cool! I love the 2001 stuff! Plausible functional sci fi vehicles.

Thanks, Stik. That's the truth what you wrote about 2001: A Space Odyssey. Moebius Models announced they are releasing the Discovery from 2001 next year. Now that is going to be on my "to do" list!

Borg! I'm glad you enjoyed the pictures!!

inside Matt's garage at about 10 pm

My buddy had a bunch of building supplies left over, half-hardened stucco and plaster mix for the surface. He spread that over the fiberglass mesh and we had a gooey lunar diorama in about forty minutes. We cut apart black garbage bags to make a backing and I suspended the 'bus in a little harness of fishing line. It was simple and yes, it was a lot of fun!

That is too cool for your rapid made lunar scenery! Very impressive work!

And that forthcoming Discovery kit... Wow!!! :shoutout:

I did pick up this little gem from Mobius last summer....

Perhaps we need a sci fi or 2001 themed Group Build here one day... :hmm:

Holy cow, Stik! I'm interested in a group sci-fi build. "I'd be grateful, Captain, if you'd just give the word." Seriously, I missed out on the Pan Am repop and that makes me sorry. I'm glad you found it!

Carlos, I have had this MPC test mule for ILM 1974-76 paint jobs sitting in a box; I shaved off the panel lines and rebuilt the nose, but I could definitely use a sci-fi group build or just a friendly push, to get this one done. Otherwise she is a box queen!

Very cool! I appreciate the presentation too... adds a lot of impact to the subject. What's this about a Sci Fi Group Build??? I also have a kit on the shelf that I need a kick-in-the-pants to get get started on...

Let's do this, John! Time for the kick!

I want to get cracking on this X-Wing project - 1/48 scale - using this custom designed mechanism to open and close the wings properly.
