1/72 Airfix A6M2b Type 0 Model 21 Zero complete

I started the Airfix Zero. As typical I started with the cockpit and engine. I assembled the pit and engine, added some belts, painted, dry-brushed, added a wash and assembled the fuse halfs. It looks to be a nice kit and standard fare to the new (2012) Airfix. It came with some pain, which I won't be using and a nifty brush.

If you have not sealed up the cockpit yet, get rid of one of the shoulder belts. Apparently the Japanese used only a single shoulder harness instead of two. Like a modern automobile.

Oh that's interesting. I will remove one of them. It also looks like there were two seat belts.

Thanks Mike, I was thinking of it, then I installed the belts. After Check's revelation, I may just go ahead and drop him in anyway.

Just double check his height before you glue him in. I've been noticing that the new Airfix pilots sit too low. They end up looking eye level at the IP instead of through the windscreen.

Interesting indeed. Nice to know if I ever do a WW2 Japanese aircraft. Are they like that in all their fighters - Vals, Kates, etc...?

That is a interesting tid bit Stik. I think my Eduard PE sets have a full harness for Japanese aircraft.

I put the whole seat belt thing to bed and installed the pilot. I suppose I should put belts on him
I assembled the wings and tail. The gaps are larger that the Hasegawa kit but still manageable.

Looks like a pretty decent little kit there Steve. Good progress so far man. One thing I did NOT know was about the use of single strap shoulder harnesses on the Japanese side.
