1/48 Tamiya Mk.I Swordfish WIP

Post by Modelcrazy »

I started the Tamiya 1/48 Swordfish. I've heard that this is one of Tamiya's best offerings, but I've also watched WIP builds where the modelers had problems with the wings. I've had this kit for a few years and am excited to start on it.

I purchased the Tamiya PE set for it as well as the Eduard set, which contains three trees for the cockpit, engine and exterior details.

So after a couple days installing the PE and painting the cockpit I am at the point where I can close up the fuselage.

I wish I had known this before I purchased these detail sets. Oops, too late

Oh man... I wanted the Tamiya Swordfish for a looooong time but the price is too high for my budget. What sort of problems regarding the wings?

The cockpit looks spectacular! I laughed when you noticed the PE is "for EXPERTS". LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!

Thanks guys. The issues were getting them straight and the correct alignment while using the Tamiya PE interplane cables. They can be displayed either out or folded so I think it was something to do about it. The kit wings have main spars so I'm not sure where the problem arises. I never have had issues aligning biplane wings so I don't think I should have an issue.

I'm taking a small break from the ship for just a moment to get something done on the Swordfish.
I assembled the tail, wings and engine/PE and sprayed the black base. I'm going to spray the underside of the wings and other hard to reach areas before I assemble further.

Nice.
What are you using for your black base?

Perhaps the clue is the jar of Tamiya black in the previous photo montage? You could thin Tamiya XF1 down to primer consistency...
