1/48 Hasegawa Fw 190 (Egon Mayer)

Post by lawdog114 »

Hello, here is my Hasegawa Fw 190 A-5 in Egon Mayer's JG2 markings around June of 1943. Mayer was a 100 plus kill ace and was considered the father of the head on bomber attack. He is perhaps better known for turning 56th FG Robert Johnson's P-47 into a flying sieve before saluting him and flying away. I used a True Details seat, Quickboost guns from the A-8 version, and Ultracast wheels.

Thanks for looking,

The finish looks pretty much spot on to me. The details, weathering...all are top-notch. Thanks!

Building the same one for the GB also with the decals from the Eagle Strike sheet, Eduard kit though.
Great reference, thank you! :D

I also work on the Hasegawa A-4 from Mayer with the large air intakes on it. He used it in the same period like his A-5 especially for sorties against high flying bombers with exact the same markings. It was originally build as an A-3 but upgraded to A-4 standards shortly before delivery to the front units. Only three of them existed (A-4/U7).
Cheers,
Torben

Thanks guys. Jim, I use good old fashioned Testor's Dull coat thinned with lacquer thinner. I've never had a need to use anything else. I alter the sheen by varying the amount added to the thinner. I tend to go for an ever so slight sheen to my models.

I mix my dull coat, as with all of my paints, on a cheap plastic paint palette with an old paintbrush. It works great and there is little waste.

Of course...doesnt everyone? Nah.....kidding, thats just how I mix my paints. I should have clarified. The old brush is just for stirring then I dump it into the cup of my airbrush. I use a gravity fed Thayer Chandler Omni 4000.

Okay, I feel a little better. My hands have stopped shaking I think. I should have figured that part out. Doh. Beautiful work.
