Trumpeter F-107 in 1/72 scale

I was hoping this would be a fun, easy build. Not horrible, but .....Rather than pitch it in the trash, I just did what I could. I have spent two days or more trying to get the long pitot tubes on each wing tip and the probe in the nose to stay put, after they were broken off. Why do companies put such fragile pieces on the wings? Anyway, the landing gear was a disaster from the get go. Didn't fit right and there was no strenght to it. So, it became an "in flight" model. Guess what? the gear doors were not desiggned to be built that way.

Sounds whiny and I'm sorry. It isn't meant to be that way. I have to figure out how to not break stuff all the time. Below, there is ONE picture with all three probes still attached. I picked up the model and it came out of my hands. Not there are zero probes, and that is how it will stay.

This has been in progress for a while. I shelved it over the issue with the gear. I may yet come back and reattach the probes. Not a biggie, I am just tired of messing with it for now.

The finish is Alclad. Different shades of Aluminum and I added a few drops of their black primer in a few places to darken the panel. I am really quite pleased with the finish...Tried to get some masking to replicate the red, but could not pull it off, so I went with this one. I have since added the insignia back on the fuselage sides. Those were some that did not work from the kit decals. Had some spares.

The decals were hit and miss. Some worked fine, some shattered and a couple just split into several pieces.

Now, to find a stand. There is nothing on the bottom of this thing.

Kari, it was a competitor for the contract that the F-105 ended up winning. They were both J-75 powered. Only prototypes were built.

Way to go sticking with this Lyle! It ain't looking too bad for a butt-ugly plane! I never liked this thing with the engine intakes on the top; it seems so unwieldy and most probably was difficult for the pilot to see aft. Not a good thing when you have enemy aircraft in the vicinity...
