Thanks, Guys. Now it has to sit for a few days while the paint hardens up to be fit for a good polish. Used some Model Master Gloss Dark Sea Blue this time for the undercoat. Maybe it would look good with some F6F markings for a Navy carrier bird? Where is that tailhook, it must be here somewhere!

I suspect it's biggest drawback as a carrier aircraft might be range, as I'm told it's best to have plenty of fuel so as to get back to the carrier. Range was always an issue with the P-47 in the Pacific Theatre until the P-47N.

Here's where it is now. The major markings are stenciled and painted, the small ones and the stars and bars are decals as there is less chance of silvering. It was a fair bit of work to draw up the art for that big name to make a stencil, but I doubt using the decal would look good due to all the clear decal film involved.

As far as range on the P-47D goes, a quick check shows that it has roughly they same range as the F6F (slightly more than) and F4U (slightly less than), with all three types having roughly around a 1000 mile range. Which was significantly more than the F4F’s range. I was thinking that size or weight might be more of a challenge, but a quick look at the TBF and SB2C shoot that down.
