Tamiya 1:48 A-10A (Pic Heavy)

Crunch time. I started this kit a few weeks ago, and i feel im at a point where i can start a WIP. Im invested and excited about finishing this kit. This is my first try at the black basing technique. Ive also learned how to use my airbrush quickly.

Without further ado, heres some progress pics.

Black beauty. Primed with vallejo black polyurethane primer.

Supposedly that not one of Tamiya's better kits. But I really like the way you are building and painting it. The black base really works, nice depth in the paintwork.

Honestly, i was disappointed in the kit considering it was a tamiya. I opened it without having seen in or read any reviews expecting a typical tamiya shake n bake kit. Its close but still needs some work. Some of the fit isnt quite right around the nose and theres alot missing from the wheel bays. And no matter what i did the engine assembly kept cocking off to one side and leaving a ridge along the front. It was kinda weird.
The thing i found the hardest about the black basing is it was difficult to see the variations in the greens when i was laying them down. Beyond that it was one of the easier paint jobs ive done. Ill be recommending it to everyone now.

Next up is a rub down, gloss coat and decals. Then i need to finish all the ancillary bits like vertical tail surfaces and landing gear and weapons.

Cheers Jim. I wanted to build something without any expectations like i used to do as a kit. Hopefully to get me back in the groove and actually finish something. Thats why i waited so long to start a WIP too.
I did forget to mention, i learned something with this kit too. Testors flat coat rattle can will dissolve tamiya brushed on paint if it hasn't been let to cure for a few days. I was sorting out the cockpit and when i had it installed i gave it a light coat of flat to seal it all in and now ive got highlights on all the hard edges lol.
