The Duke Finishes Six Armor in February

Post by Duke Maddog »

Once gain after a successful Hobby Day weekend and some rainy days, I was able to finish these six models.

First, this is the ACE 1/2 scale French VBL Armored Car with the Milan anti-tank missile. I got this from my Secret Santa:

Next is another French vehicle, the terrible Heller 1/72 scale AMX-13/105. There's so much wrong with it! I have an ACE kit of this same vehicle; I can't wait to find it and built it to see how much better it is:

Another terrible kit, this is the Trumpeter 1/72 scale German SdKfz 9 with the crane on the back. I can't remember how many times I broke it down to rebuild it again only to still have issues. Of course, a vital piece went missing as well, so this was rigged a bit differently than usual, just so I can finish it. I'm done. Here it is in the dispersal yard waiting for my German driver to come pick it up:

Moving on, I finished this Dragon 1/72 scale Jagdpanzer IV L70 and marked it as a Syrian vehicle. Now all I need is a Hummel SP gun and I'll have all the German vehicles used by the Syrians post war:

Another difficult kit, but overall it went together well. This is the UM Models 1/72 scale M35 TRV with the mine roller kit on the front. Another shelf queen off the Shelf of Doom:

My apologies for the poor pics, I took dozens it seems and yet my camera had a difficult time focusing on this. These are the best I could get.

Finally, the last model we finished is this Aoshima 1/72 scale Japanese Type 12 Anti-ship Missile Truck. Fast, easy and fun to build:

The launch tubes even elevate as well:

And that's all for now. If all goes well, I might have two or three more models finished before March. We'll see. Meanwhile, thanks for looking in, comments are welcome.

Nice batch of completions Mark! After seeing these, I need to add those French AFVs to my 1/35 collection.

The JGSDF Anti Ship Missile truck is an outstanding build! :shoutout: :shoutout: :shoutout:

Yeah, before I saw Carlos's remark, I was going to compliment you on the Aoshima armored vehicle/launcher because it's a great kit. You can tell the difference between this kit and the Heller one which is basically the profile and nothing else. The Aoshima looks more realistic and that has to be in part due to the way the kit was designed and also to the methodology of your construction work. A lot of 1/72's appeal is in its speed, but one wrong move or over-simplification in design will make things challenging for the builder. You're another fella who has probably built more 1/72 kits than anyone I have ever met. That's a profound wealth of knowledge, Mark. Thank you for sharing!

“…and the beat goes on!”

This is quite the production run. A lot of great work here.

Thank you Carlos! The French do make some interesting vehicles. I also love the Japanese truck, it is certainly something different that you don't see anywhere else.

Thank you Bruce! I agree, the older kits like Heller do make things difficult for the builder, but sometimes it's the only way yo get that vehicle in the collection. Aoshima does an excellent job molding their parts with precision and also a lot of detail while still making them easy to build. Truly a quality company.

Thank you Lyle! I'm still keeping the beat!

Thank you Tom!
